A proper problem report. Thank you.
I'm running Windows 7 64-bit, Firefox 115.3.1esr, VDH 8.1.0.0a4 beta, CoApp 2.0.3.
That's not a typo. 2.0.3. Came out earlier today. I have no idea what's new with it.
I've asked in another thread on here that you can find. I don't have an answer yet.
For your 1 minute tractor short, VDH downloaded it fine, although it took about 10
minutes. There's some problem with the current setup that makes things download at the
most putrid speed. It started out at something terrible around 125,000 bytes per second
& slowed down to under 50,000 bytes per second. It's just disgusting. We've been
promised something better. I sure hope it lands soon. In any case, despite the awful
download speed, this thing downloaded just fine & played in VLC just fine.
For your standup comedians clip, I have launched the VDH download of it. But once again,
my download is running at a putrid speed. This one is of duration a bit under half an
hour. It's looking like it's going to take about an hour & a half to complete. I'm
getting about 150,000 bytes per second download speed at the moment, which by comparison
to the tractor video is great, I suppose. But it's still stinking lousy. There's no
telling how much slower this one will get. Assume that if I don't post about this again
that it did indeed complete successfully & played just fine.
But I decided I would try my alternative technique for getting this one. The technique I
am referring to is documented in minute detail in a thread on here with the title, "How
to download from YouTube." I'm not very imaginative, I suppose, but those instructions
still work. That technique got this video in seconds. Yes, seconds. I was getting on
the order of 10 million bytes per second download speed. It's not that YouTube can't
give proper service, it's that they refuse to. Wankers. I merged the audio & video as I
describe in that other thread & the resulting video played fine in VLC, with both audio &
video. I didn't sit & watch it, just skimmed through it. I was surprised to discover
that Live from the Apollo was not simply an almost all-white lineup, but they were all
apparently Brits. What's up with that? But that's neither here nor there.
I don't know why you had the trouble you describe. Both those videos worked/will work
fine here. One thing occurs to me. Did you do the one-time tweak? It's described in
that how-to thread I mention above. Look for a post in that thread dated July 17. It
shows you what you have to have done at least once ever since the 8.x releases of VDH
came out. If you don't remember if you've done it, do it again. It's a harmless
operation & doesn't hurt anything to do it even if you've done it before.
