I have had the same error for weeks now. My system: Ubuntu 20.04 with Firefox 121.0.1 (64-bit).
I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the debian extension x times.
Every time I select "Quick side download" or "Sinde download" or "Side download & Convert" I have to reinstall the "Companion App 2.0.10" i.e. the "vdhcoapp-2.0.10-linux-x86_64.deb" from scratch...

and the download helper still does not download after installing the Companion...

What is going wrong here? The problem has occurred since January 2024 and no update has been available since then to fix the problem?

Hello, I am grateful for any answer.
What I have tried since then.

- Installed the new Firefox 122.

-Executed the console command:

sudo apt-get install -y flatpak
flatpak permission-set webextensions net.downloadhelper.coapp snap.firefox yes
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade


- Reinstalled the Companion again

... the result is that the same error still occurs. When I try to download something on e.g. youtube I am asked to install the already new companion. "This operation requires an external application to be completed."

What else could I do to make it work again?

Update Snap Core and Firefox.

There was a bug in Ubuntu a week ago, that created that issue.
