Hi,

there are a lot of messages "VDH stopped working"

it's a Firefox issue, not only VDH is impacted, they are working on it, nothing we can do but wait.

Should be fixed soon if not already done...

Please see firefox bug tracker for more details and updates: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1548973

Sorry for that.

Apparently, a fix is in place at Mozilla for this Firefox issue and it should be deployed within the next few hours.

Hi,

The VDH has been disabled here.

It says:

> Starting in Firefox version 57, only extensions built using WebExtensions APIs will work.

Still NOT WORKING for me.

VDH does not appear in my Mozilla browser.

When attempting to install it again the message is:'Download failed. Check your connection'.

This is an unacceptable failure by Mozilla.

I WANT my VIDEO DOWNLOAD HELPER back NOW  !!!

For the umpteenth time, it is NOT a problem with VDH. It is a problem with Firefox and the Mozilla extension store caused by someone at Mozilla screwing up by the numbers. There is NOTHING the VDH people can do to help.

Mozilla have put out an emergency patch that has helped people who have the option to run studies set. Others will have to wait for the full system fix from Mozilla for VDH and other extensions to start working again.

Re-Installed Firefox and STILL not working,

WTH????? Ugggggggg I'm so tired of the developers not keeping up to speed with FF upgrades. We've lost a huge amount of functionality the past year. I really miss allinonesidebar too.

VDH is gonna really break me if they don't get her back up to speed. PLEASE Guys ya gotta set us up.

I am a 'free user' of VDH and I can confirm that a reinstall of firefox solved the problem for me. Reinstall means: just remove firefox, use the latest downloader and don't change any settings, after firefox detects that it had been installed before. I also didn't instruct firefox 'to clean' anything up as proposed in view of a user experience as on the first day.

Exactly,

Mozilla found a way to force people to install their latest version and its unwanted new features.
By installing the newest version I confirm too that the plugin works or can be downloaded again.
But no way to use plugins any longer if someone, for any reason that he has not to justify and explain, wants/has to stay with an older version.

Reinstall didn't work UNTIL I went into ADD-ONS, disabled VDH, then enabled it.
Now it's fine.

Mig, you have my heartfelt thanks.

I just added your beta update, did not reboot, and all is back to normal with VDH.

I was able to download video/music as before VDH 'broke'.

Apparently you found the issue. I have no doubt that others are thankful as well.

This stuff is well beyond my means to analyze or understand the problem, so again, you are my hero.

To be honest I thought this ability to use VDH was gone for good, killed by some clever manipulation by YouTube as somebody else suggested. That we should just accept the results of our 'evil ways' of downloading.

You found out how to fix the issue and then actually did it, and THEN, actually distributed it to others.

thanks again. I will not be updating Firefox again until it is clear that the latest version includes your work...

Murf, the problem never was with VDH.  Read the lead-off post in this thread.  It clearly states that Mozilla did something to Firefox that prevented ALL add-ons from functioning.  Firefox was at fault.  VDH was never at fault.  When Mozilla got their act together about a day later, there was NOTHING that had been changed in VDH & poof magic it started working again.  Not that VDH had ever stopped working.  It's just that Firefox made it look like VDH & every other add-on in the world also stopped working.  So your thanks for this are misplaced.

However, Michel deserves many thanks for this wonderful product, which can be free but you really ought to put your money where you mouth is & buy a license to say thank you in a way that actually matters.  On a completely separate track, and at a later time, YouTube changed something & it affected VDH.  I suspect YouTube does stuff like this on purpose to make life difficult for downloaders such as VDH.  Michel fixed the problem within a couple of days & he released VDH 7.3.7a1 beta which indeed fixed several problems with YouTube.  Now that is something Michel richly deserves to be thanked for.  Do feel free to thank him for that.  I already have.

It turns out YouTube has been at it again & we will likely get something new out of Michel yet again.  It sounds like it will be a new CoApp this time.  I would like to take this opportunity to preemptively thank Michel for the great work he does trying his best to stay one step ahead of, or at least right beside, the nefarious, evil, repugnant YouTube.  YouTube sucks big wet ones.  Michel, however, probably deserves a big fat wet one smack on the lips.  I will, however, let somebody else do those particular honors.

By latest, of course you mean VDH release 7.3.7a1 beta & CoApp 1.3.0, both of which were created under quasi-emergency conditions specifically to correct problems on YouTube.

Are there any updates in the works for Firefox pre-quantum users.

I am disabled and Firefox post-quantum takes away the acessability add-ons that I *NEED* and use Firefox for....or at least makes them less powerful.

Your add-on still works well for most sites, but, sometimes stalls on "HLS Streaming" sites, going most of the way then stopping.

You might prefer more recent Waterfox Classic, which I use with legacy version 6.3.3 of Video DownloadHelper (without requiring the companion application).

NOTHING works on YouTube or AT LEAST none that I have tried....  many more than this. There is something drastically "messed up" here
with the once outstanding VDH program.

I took up your challenge, Roger.  See the attached image.  This is on Windows 7 64-bit, Firefox 73.0.1 64-bit, VDH 7.3.7a1 beta (with a license), CoApp 1.3.0.  All 3 videos whose URLs you posted, which are the 3 videos that you can see in the attached image were downloading in VDH, did eventually successfully complete downloading.  I've seen a lot of folks on this Group lately crying & pulling their hair out about how YouTube has completely screwed up everything.  I'm not seeing it here.  It still works fine as far as I can tell.  I use VDH to download YouTube videos every day or two.  Am I leading a charmed life?  I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about.  Do please explain to me, Jerome or Michel, what it is that YouTube has done this time to distract you from providing a feature in VDH that resumes interrupted downloads from the point of failure.  That is a feature I've been waiting patiently for now for the past 2 years, give or take.  I would so much more appreciate being able to resume an interrupted download from the point of failure than have to wait even longer for that while you jump through hoops to accommodate YouTube's latest trick that has half the world scurrying to compensate for.

And as an aside, I see people on here complaining that WEBM, MKV, ADP, and others just don't work for you.  Why?  What do you care about the video format as long as you have something that can play it?  Get VLC.  It plays everything.  And for 2 of these particular 3 videos (the WEBM files), you don't even need VLC.  They both play just fine in the browser itself.  I give you that Firefox doesn't seem to understand MKV.  But VLC does & that one (as well as the two WEBMs) played just fine in VLC.  By play just fine I mean the video & the audio were there.  I didn't play the 3 videos all the way through.  I just skipped through them & wherever I sampled, there was both audio & video for the full durations of 9:56, 8:57, & 6:52 respectively.  By the way, thanks for posting URLs for short videos.  If they had been of any significant length, I would not have bothered testing them.

So what is going on?  Why are so many people complaining about VDH not working any longer while I'm not having any issues with it?  That is, other than it won't resume interrupted downloads from the point of failure.

Not a challenge in any way. I don't really care why you are not having issues... I am and so are many others. Some of us have strongly fiscally supported this fine app and
would like to see it continue. I have use VDH since its inception and NEVER had issues up until the past four or so months. Send your whole system to Mig and have
him use it to test...

Send my whole system to Michel . . .  That actually brings up another issue that has cropped up here every so often.  Most good software I've ever worked with had some kind of debug tracing built into it.  When problems arise with the software, the support techs can ask the customer to enable the tracing which then generates a log.  The customer sends the log to the support techs & presto, it's the next best thing to sending them your whole computer.  People regularly come on here to ask for an activity log to show what VDH did when it worked -- a stellar idea to my way of thinking.  The other side of that coin needs to be addressed as well: there needs to be an activity log of VDH not working, much more detailed than the other log & more than likely gibberish to the run-of-the-mill user like me & probably anybody else posting here, but highly informative to the techs, in particular Michel.  I have to think such debug tracing is built into the product while it's back in the shop & they're working on it.  But for some ill-advised reason, they remove that code from the program when they release it.

In any case, I imagine that the fact that some users are not seeing problems is just an indication that the problems are not that easy to solve.  They can say there's so many variables & they can't imagine where to begin.  Generate a debug trace log & the variables will be laid out in complete detail & the excuses go away.  Then they might get to the bottom of things.  I'm a satisfied customer.  Everybody should be.  Let's get there.

Well, this is 2/29/2020  and it's NOT WORKING, and hasen't been for over a month!.  Latest Firefox, latest Video Download Helper,  OS X 10.11.8.  It only detects ADP which is useless.  I want my old Video Download Helper back!  But, conveniently, Mozilla doesn't allow downloads of prior versions.  I am not a happy camper.

I don't run a Windows machine.  And I don't know if the problem is YouTube or Firefox, or VDH.  All I know is it DOES NOT WORK ANYMORE.  ADP is useless to me.  If I wanted to play the video at all, I could just as well watch it on YouTube, why bother with VCL?  And in the browser?  What's the point of downloading?  As Roger Dane has said, lucky you.  I've wasted hours and hours trying all the"fixes" nada.

What do you mean "in the browser"? VLC is a standalone player.
