The owner of this group & the moderators only rarely delete posts from this forum. These
are some reasons I can think of that have caused posts to be deleted. There are probably
more reasons than these:
Abusive language directed at another user
Off-topic political rants
Pornographic content
Advertising
Any of these behaviors is usually associated with not simply a deleted post but also
banishment from the group.
We are very sensitive to these issues because of something that has happened here twice
within the past couple of years. Google has closed the group. We were completely
offline for over a week both times. Michel had to threaten legal action to get us back
on the air. I'm not sure if we ever discovered exactly what caused the group to go
offline. It might have been some posts like the ones I've just described. It might have
been an unjustifiable complaint from a disgruntled user, a complaint that was not
properly vetted by a human at Google. Google's automated systems just decided that's it,
you're gone. So we are very serious about violations of the sort I've described above.
Another reason for a post to be deleted is revealing your VDH license number. I tell
people when they do that & they usually delete the post themselves. Banishment is not
part of this issue. The VDH license is something you should keep secret, like your
social security number, your credit card numbers, your bank account numbers, your logon
passwords for E-mail & any web sites you might be a member of, other things of this
nature.
But there are other entities monitoring this group besides owner & moderators. In fact
they monitor all Google properties. They are apparently automated bots. They
occasionally make what appears to be a frivolous decision to delete a post. There is
usually no explaining why. The post is usually perfectly innocuous, on topic, relevant,
harmless, acceptable in every way. But the bots trigger for reasons that remain an
unfathomable enigma.
In such a case, you can try to E-mail your post to the group. I discuss exactly that
(among many other topics) here:
https://groups.google.com/g/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/c/BzPLK2YyL-s
I have long speculated that when your post does not have a high enough signal to noise
ratio, the bots reject it. By that I mean that you are posting one line but you are
quoting in 50 lines. But, you say, I'm not quoting anything. You are wrong. Look at
the posts in this thread. Look carefully. You'll see that all but the first one (and my
post here) have 3 dots below them. Click the dots. I'll bet you didn't know about that.
It's so useless & wasteful to quote posts that already appear right here on this web
page. But it's only sort of your fault. However, if it happens after my explanation
here, it sure will be your fault because in a moment, you will know better & you will no
longer have any excuses.
Before you post, look for the 3 dots in your post. What? There aren't 3 dots in my
post. I only just now opened the post & I haven't even started typing. But the 3 dots
are there. Google makes it hard to see them. I call it stealth quoting. Scroll your
web page down before you start composing your post. Surprise. Before you even set
finger to keyboard to write your post, you have to click the stealthy 3 dots & DELETE ALL
THE JUNK. This is another topic I discuss in the thread whose link I've just cited. You
would do well to read throught that thread, if not now, if not in one sitting, eventually
over time. Bookmark it so you can come back to it.
And I better not see any more posts in this thread that end with 3 dots.
