This is a problem that i have been chasing for a while (it has been reported several times) but cannot reproduce. Can you give me some details: what page address are you downloading from and which variant to you pick (if you have a choice) ?

This only occurs on some streaming videos and of course, it waits until it's wasted all the bandwidth and CPU processing to fail (it happens at the very end of the download/capture).  I'm using the latest version of Video DownloadHelper and the companion app and the companion app is set as the default handler.

The URL where this occurs: https://regainyourbrain.awakeningfromalzheimers.com/new-episode (this page contains links to individual episodes, click on any of them to activate download/capture) - this link will only be valid until Sun 3/18 (they will remove access).  This error occurs regardless of what bit rate or resolution is chosen.

EPERM: operation not permitted, rename 'E:\Downloads\<any file name>.mp4.part' -> 'E:\Downloads\<any file name>.mp4'

Are you using the latest VDH 7.2.x ?
Is there any chance you already have a <any file name>.mp4 file in the E:\Downloads directory ?

Also, I notice that this is a Dash streaming (not sure what that means).  This has got to be a re-broadcast of an original HLS Live Stream.  I notice that when I use either Browser  with either the Download to Folder or the QuickDownload, I do not get the files appearing in the chosen folder.  For Live HLS streaming, I've been able to view the *.mp4.part file in the SaveAs folder or the /download folder...for this Dash, it is in a Hidden folder.  I will let this play out till the end.  Just another mystery.

Oh wow....I let these Dash stream that was a re-broadcast of the above site run to almost the end.  Horrible, at least for me.  When Aggregating the file, the ff.... task that was running took over 70%cpu and over 50%memory....3.5 hrs later after a 1hr stream.....I aborted it.  Now there may be some settings about Dash that the Default settings are wrong...no colors in the Setting for Dash in mine.  But this conversion, at least for me with v7.1.2, is NoGood!  Also, the aborted *.mp4 file has an play error about no Audio....again my settings may not be correct or you cannot abort this Dash because the ending info is not yet reached.  HLS live streams act differently with a Stop to terminate, while this Dash had an Abort....not sure if I'm saying this all correct.  Also, as I said in my orig post, the folder locations and them being Hidden is different than the HLS ones

As stated originally, I'm using the latest version 7.2.2 and no there's no previous copy of the file name I'm saving in e:\downloads.

My working file did appear in my chosen SaveAs folder, but only after doing an abort.  The file looked clean, but playing the *.mp4 that appeared produced an Audio error.  As I noticed, while Aggregating, the work file was no where to be found.  Thus, maybe, in your case the process got aborted by the system and you end up not being able to find the file anywhere.....which probably would have be no good anyway.

tj...I see that this is a large 2.25hr Dash replay of GMO and not a Live Stream.  I'm on 7.1.2 and tried both Browser and CompApp download of the small 640x360 replay.  The first thing I notice is after choosing to Folder Download is that I could not see the working .mp4.part file in my chosen folder.  So, both methods DO open new Tabs where I identified my SaveAs folder/names..  Since I cannot find the Hidden scratch folder, it is hard to track.  Dash replays do not seem to process like HLS Live or replay  or even movie downloads in that I've been able to dictate and view where the files work and end.  Unfortunate, for me, this file is too big (long) to play with.  Anyone out there with a Smaller Dash replay file.  I'm going to abort this file because I can see in Task Manager that the ffmpeg.exe under FF is running at 89%CPU and a FF App is chewing up Ram memory (1800mb).  Find another really small Dash replay with a shorter Aggregation time.

tj... I tried this GMO after updating FF to 59.0.1 and VDH 7.2.2 as a Dash file using CompApp/download of the smallest file replay.  The file appears in my Save folder with my modified name as a *.mp4.  The running blue dot says Aggravating...but wow, the ffmpeg.exe CPU's  is over 85%.  The Ram for FF is also very high, about 50%.  I guess I don't comprehend these large numbers, so I will abort again....Dash is different.  I checked the Dash settings for Audio+video was OK.

This may be slightly off-topic, but when I go to a site that generates a .WEBM file type, it takes 4+ hours to complete 'aggregating' - here's the site: https://thesacredplant.com/docuseries/episode2vcy/ (it will only be available for a short time - it's a series).  The file is only about 200mb in size.

That's something we'll try to improve.

Note that having a registered version makes the process way faster since there is no video re-encoding.

BTW, the problem continues with a different streaming site at http://tennisfilessummit.com/sessions/ (click on any of the sessions to view) - here's the error (using latest version of VD and FF):

EPERM: operation not permitted, rename 'E:\Downloads\Ian Westermann - Tennis Summit 2018.mp4.part' -> 'E:\Downloads\Ian Westermann - Tennis Summit 2018.mp4'

This is a DASH stream and I did search other posts and found a solution - change VDH, Settings (gear icon), Behavior and change Dash Streams to 'aggregate both video and audio'.  Of course now, the aggregating process extremely slow and ffmpeg.exe uses nearly 100% CPU, slowing the computer to a crawl, although I can offset that by setting the process priority to low/idle.

I know you posted earlier in this thread that purchasing a license would allow aggregation to occur quickly, but unfortunately, the $29 price you're asking is a bit out of my budget right now.

The good news is that we very recently make good progress on DASH management. The output will be of better quality and will be created much faster, using the GPU of your machine.
This will require new version of VDH and the coapp but it's not ready yet since we have to make sure the new version of the coapp runs correctly on the ~12 systems we support.

I just got the new version of VDH v7.3.0 and companion app ver 1.2.1 and it's still taking 6-7 hours to complete 'aggregating' videos at resolution 858x480 and about 250-300mb in size (1:30 to 2:00 length).  These videos are of type .WEBM.  I have a Core i7-920 2.67ghz CPU and AMD Radeo 7470, 1gb VRAM.  Hardware's a bit slow by today's standard, but not that much.
