Does not remember the last download location- uses the deafault one- that 1st.

Second:  even after i changed the "Default download directory" - still the same-  always trys to save to "UserXX\Downloads"

My browser default download directory is not even "UserXX\Downloads" ....

This happens when you pick the download processor as "browser" instead of "companion app". Not being able to change the default download directory is a limitation of Firefox 57.

I have this same issue.  I'm running Firefox 57.0.4 (64-bit) on Windows 10 and have the latest DownloadHelper installed on my machine, as well as the companion app.  In previous iterations, I would be prompted to select a download directory each time I went to download a file, which was perfect because depending on the type of video, I would select the appropriate folder.  Isn't there a way to do this now?

Ugh! This is a big headache.

On Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.x the "companion application" provides a VERY poor user experience (UX). Specifically, it is tedious to navigate, can't paste or type the path, provides no apparent "type ahead incremental search", does not seem to list all folders, etc. From a UX perspective I'd prefer to see/use my system's file browser (Dolphin).

So, I have the VERY bad experience of "browser download" or the worse experience of "companion application download". Sure get tired of FireFox updates that just break everything I've tweaked to suit my needs. I recognize you are stuck having to react to their changes. Bummer.

May I resurrect this old thread please.

Like poster Berry Classic I to have noticed that when using the companion app with Firefox 60x DownloadHelper 7x automatically downloads to a directory called dwhelper. I can't find any way to get Firefox (or Chrome for that matter) to get a prompt for my preferred download location.

If I uninstall the companion app then I have found a workaround in another thread on here that does enable me to use the download prompt.

I do download a lot of Periscope videos so have no choice but to use the companion app and I'm wondering if there is workaround to get the download prompt back when 'companion' has to be used.

Any help appreciated.

Cjk...I attempted to do a summary of the Save-as with CompApp/browser with/wo Tabs and Windows here with WildW...see if it gives you some clues.  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/FhszW1wy-SQ

When you say "uninstall the companion app" are you going to the VDH Gear Settings and under Behavior, changing to Browser for the download process?  You are surely not "un-installing the program in Windows, are you?  You can just toggle the choice under the Settings gear.

Using the CompApp and either the Tab/Window Save-as will allow the last folder used to default appear when saving.  In fact, the "Default download directory" will show this.  This settings info appears after a previous save to folder.  When you get to the Save-as display, find the location of where you want to save (by using the Folder Tree).  This will then be you default till you make another or choose another folder.  Works all the time!  I'm assuming you are not using the "Quick Download" choice for the process.

There have been changes to both the CompApp (1.2.4) and VDH, so use the latest.  Lots of great changes has happened over the last 3-4 months.

If you do not use the CompApp and use the Browser with either Tab/Window for the File Dialog (under Appearance), the Save-as folders will default to what is set in Mozilla.
