Firefox freezes up to a minute when closing a twitch.tv tab when the add on is enabled.
Happens when there is no downloads going on.
Happens about half of the time, not every time.

This has been happening for a couple of months now and I recently discovered that the vdh add on is the culprit.
Disabling the add on fixes the issue but I noticed that disabling it also takes some time. Might be related.

I hope this can be fixed.

Cheers

Can you open VDH settings > Behavior and verify that parameter HLS live history is unchecked ?

Yes, it is unchecked.

Thanks. Would you recommend a minimal procedure to reproduce the misbehaviour ?

Here is how it usually happens:
- Open a twitch stream, let it play for a couple of seconds.
- Pause the first tab (or mute and let it play) and open another stream on a new tab, let it play.
- Close the second tab (I think it playing or being paused doesn't make a difference)

After closing the tab, firefox freezes and window goes white and says "Not responding". It recovers after a while.
Like I said in the original message, this happens about half of the time. The time to recover varies, from 10 seconds up to a minute.

If there is anything else I can help with, don't hesitate to ask.

Perhaps I can add to this as it may be relevant. I was watching a live stream on Youtube with vdh enabled in Firefox and noticed more ram
being consumed in the task manager and also an increase cpu usage. So I decided to disable the extension and ram / cpu consumption went
back down.

So maybe this happened for you on Twitch if you had at least one or more  tabs open with live streams playing with the add on enabled.
The higher memory usage may be the cause of the freezes, and my suggestion is to disable the extension to remedy this problem if
you aren't planning to download a video but simply watch a live stream.

What does the task manager window show to you when on Twitch ?

That's what I'm doing. I disable the extention when I'm not using it.

As for memory and CPU usage, there isn!t much difference between vdh being enabled or disabled. Around 100 MB memory and no CPU.

Damned i cannot reproduce the problem  even after a night long streaming from twitch. I am on Linux. Maybe this is a Windows only issue. I'll try on that platform.

I have the same problem. I don't know if it happens 100% of the time after closing a Twitch tab that I left open, but it's the majority of the time. Disabling VDH solves the problem, so I just leave it disabled until I need to use it.

I tried blacklisting Twitch but that didn't work. HLS live history is also unchecked for me.

I'm running into this issue too. If i have twitch streams open and have them playing for a little bit, if I close a firefox tab, it freezes everything. It can happen while watching anything with a video on the page.
