INFO RE: Premium Chrome License is now unregistered or inactive

I'm posting this because it may explain the recent issue, and offer some guidance:

Video Download Helper has pertinent page here: About Chrome licenses where they indicate that:
  • Before Feb 2021, Premium licenses for Chrome browser were purchased from the Chrome Webstore using Google Pay
  • Google later ended the Google Pay service, but Lifetime licenses are still valid and will be honored
  • Premium licenses for Chrome are now purchased through Stripe and license statuses are managed from VHD's own servers
  • Only versions of Video DownloadHelper starting from 7.5.0.0 can register using this new licensing mechanism  (the current version of VHD is 8.0.0.7)
Note: Users that purchased lifetime Chrome licenses via Google Pay did get a confirmation email from Google, but did not receive an actual License number. 

In my own case, having purchased the License prior to the change, the License stayed active automatically behind the scenes until a few days ago. I have emailed Support and included my original confirmation of purchase that came from Google. I expect they will be able to assist by creating a License key that will correspond to the original purchase.

My suggestion to people having this issue:
  1. Search your Gmail (or email) for your original purchase confirmation, which should have been come from "Google Payments", payments...@google.com
    (The email body will also contain "Thanks for buying from ACLAP SAS in the Chrome Web Store")
  2. Email support (sup...@downloadhelper.net) and include (paste or forward) the original purchase confirmation, and explain that your older purchase never included a License key, and that you need them to provide one because VHD is no longer activated.
Until I hear back from Support, I cannot know for certain if the problems with Licenses that I and other people are having are directly related to the issue I have detailed.

Lastly, I do not know if any of the above would related to people having License activation issues for later purchases via Stripe, or licenses purchased for Edge or Firefox.

If only this could be pinned to the top, but among the list of features Google dropped was pinning posts to the top. I think only Jerome or MIg
could do that but the feature is gone anyway. If your license was purchased afterwards through stripe then you can recover the license yourself
with the email address used for the purchase on Downloadhelper.net website. 

Also I think it was huge stuff up to push out a new extension with it not retaining settings and the license. Where is the quality assurance testing to make sure these mistakes don't happen. Test that everything is in working order before the update happens.

Two days after filing the complaint, I received my license number.

UPDATE: I can confirm my original post is accurate as to the cause of the inactive Lifetime Premium license, and the steps to resolve. 
Within 12 hours of emailing Support, I received a reply from VDH and a follow-up email that provided me a Chrome license code 👍

2nd UPDATE: 🙁 Although I did receive a License from VHD Support, which did properly register/activate on my laptop, when I try to register/activate it on my primary desktop PC, it failed with the same " License error Network error - no response" result.  I hope Support can resolve this.

Howard, this latest error kind of sounds like a transient network problem. I would try a
few things, in this order of escalating severity.

1. Disconnect your Internet connection. This can be as simple as
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
Or you can physically unplug the electricity from your network connection, then plug it
back in.
Then retry.
The idea is to refresh your connection with your ISP. Weird network glitches happen on
occasion. This is how I deal with those rare occurrences.

2. Delete cookies for the VDH web site. In Firefox, when you use the settings dialog to
delete cookies, it also deletes the disk cache entries associated with those cookies. If
you have any substantial amount of cache, this can be a lengthy & mostly useless
exercise. There is a Firefox add-on called Cookie Manager (not very imaginative but very
descriptive) that just deletes cookies without referring to cache.
Then retry.

3. Close all browser windows then retry.

4. I personally hate this advice but it might be indicated in this case. Reboot. Then
retry.

I FINALLY got the extension to register and activate my license! 👍🏻
The problem was not Internet connection, cookies, or cache (as far as I can tell.)
The simple solution was: I REMOVED VDH extension from Chrome, and reinstalled it from the Chrome App Store. (I did not have to uninstall the helper app.)
This fresh installation of the extension immediately was able to be activated/registered with my license.
