Good problem report. But I get a 403 Forbidden on that URL. It's an actual MP4. Did
you find that MP4 on a web page? What's the URL of that web page? Maybe it's
geographically restricted so I won't be able to look at it anyway. Maybe the video
inside that MP4 is visible to anybody but you have to visit the web page yourself. Some
web sites generate random characters in the URL of an MP4, random characters that are
unique to each visitor to the page. So it might be better to post the URL of the page on
which the video is found instead of the URL of the video. What problem exactly are you
observing?

Source URL is a *very* NSFW page here:

https://jav.guru/216333/ssis-498-on-a-business-trip-a-middle-aged-sexually-harassed-boss-whom-she-despises-is-unexpectedly-sharing-a-room-with-her-amane-mahina-a-g-cup/

The problem I'm experiencing is that I cannot perform a successful download of the video from that site.  I get an error message when I make the attempt.

Unfortunately, I don't tend to trust these sites from a security perspective.  I typically run my browser in private mode and with No-Script running to control js triggers/links to other sites.  That blocking/filtering potentially could be one of the reasons this download is not working for me.

The videos on this site stream all from different source providers, each of whom has a link underneath the video windows.  There's a "STREAM FE" link/button, a "STREAM ST" link/button, etc.  Clicking each link/button on each of the site's video pages seems to trigger a video stream from that source streaming provider.  "STREAM FE" is one provider, "STREAM ST" is another separate one, etc.

The link for the "problem" URL that I have difficulties with is via the "STREAM FE" link.  When I click the "STREAM FE" link and attempt to perform a Quick Download, the download seems to start for a second or two then stops.

Clicking on the VideoDownloadHelper logs for the download attempt displays an error message.  When I click on the details link, I get the following (copy/pasted/redacted):

-----

It's probably worth noting that the "STREAM FE" links are no longer able to be downloaded for me on seemingly any of the videos from that site.  It used to work some weeks ago and then stopped.  I tended to prefer the "STREAM FE" provider than the others as they allowed for a streaming resolution selection (480p, 720p, 1080p) which allowed for me to target the resulting filesize of the downloaded file (for 720p, typically between 1 - 2 GB)

Thanks for trying to help with this issue.

NSFW doesn't faze me.  I'm not at work anyway.  Never am.  Don't be jealous.

A few other posters here have reported problems on JAV sites.  They are typically larded down with ads.  I had to plough through several just to get to the point of the video playing.  But I finally did.  VDH offered me a variant that it claimed was about 756M.  My download ended as yours did.  Plan B.  Sometimes, it helps to switch on the HLS as M2TS setting on the Behavior tab of VDH settings.  That is usually after a VDH error message that mentions M2TS.  This did not but I tried it anyway.  The result was the same.

Plan C0.  Open the Network Monitor.  Filter on .m3u8.  No HLS manifest.  Plan C1.  Filter on .mpd.  No DASH manifest.  Plan C2.  Filter on .mp4.  This is what I got:

#01.jpg

I double clicked the first entry in the Network Monitor & Firefox opened a new tab with what looked like the ad in the built-in Firefox video player.  The ad was the one you can't see in my image above because I censored it.  Forget that.  I skipped the second entry.  Not interested in .json files.  I double clicked the third entry.  Firefox opened this new tab:

#02.jpg

Sure looks like our video, all two and a half hours of it.  I played it for the 2 seconds you can see there to make sure it had audio as well.  It did.  So I popped up the context menu in the middle of the playback area & selected the "Save Video As..." entry.  This downloaded the video to my system.  It wasn't very fast.  I seemed to be getting anywhere between about 0.75 & 1.5 million bytes per second service.  Kind of crummy but porn is very popular, despite everyone claiming it is the scourge of the earth.  I'm sure this site has very heavy load & this is the best we can expect.  I ended up with an MP4 of size 756M that took something a little over 10 minutes to download.  Its properties were these:

#03.jpg

A bit low on the resolution but I didn't notice the little gear icon in the video player at first.  I see I could have picked a higher resolution.  But given the lousy download speed I got, it's probably just as well.  In any case, this file played fine in Firefox.  I didn't bother with VLC because I was in the middle of watching something else & didn't feel like interrupting it nor fiddling with the VLC settings that would allow multiple instantiations of VLC.  It played just fine, video & audio, in Firefox.  I didn't watch it all the way through, just sampled it at intervals to make sure it was all there.  Ctrl+RightArrow skips 15 minutes at a time.  So handy.  Also, pressing & holding RightArrow is useful.  Anyway, it was all there, including the end credits, audio all the way (oh what fun it is to ride in a . . .)

Why couldn't VDH read this?  Beats me.  It's just a plain old MP4, no streaming protocols involved.  But who cares?  You can download it as I've illustrated here.

The moral of the story: There is almost always more than one way to skin a pu... ummm... I mean cat.

That seems to have done the trick - and yes, I LOL'ed at your last sentence :)

Thanks for your time again on helping to solve this issue for me.
