Is there any way to use Video DownloadHelper (or something else) to download unlisted youtube videos like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yt6gMiccjec
When I try, I just see a long list of items to download (see attached image) but when I click any of the options, it just downloads a small, unwatchable file. I am able to download normal youtube videos. I am using firefox in Windows 10.
Thanks!

Not sure my first attempt to post this message went through, so posting again.
I'm on Mac Monterey 12.4 Beta and Firefox (normal build channel) do you not get a hit for the full WEBM file in your list (screenshot below)?  Could you please export and post your configuration file?

I'd like to know what you mean by "unlisted" videos. I was able to visit that link just
fine. It was listed for me.

In any case, I have seen something like what our original poster describes when a
particular YouTube video is being "premiered." That could be when it is a livestream, or
it could be simply that it is being released & somehow the only way you can handle the
thing is by streaming it, meaning just sitting & watching it. Once it's been up long
enough to have been played through once, then YouTube seems to archive the item & VDH has
no problem downloading it after that. Have you tried visiting the page now? I suspect
you just needed to wait the 3+ hours it took after the video was first posted before VDH
would be able to get it. This appears to have something to do with the way YouTube
presents the video. VDH is just the victim here.

I am intrigued by the image anxiolydiot has posted. It shows 2 variants, one of
resolution 1280x720, which seems unremarkable enough, & the other of resolution 37x60,
which is so low I don't recall ever seeing such a thing. The curiosity is that both
variants show a size of 587.8M despite their both being of duration 3:15:42/43. When I
have encountered variants with different resolutions but the same size, this has usually
indicated I was looking at something that was audio without video. I am not going to try
downloading something that is over 3 hours long as a test. YouTube generally gives
pitifully slow download speed & I don't feel like wasting my bandwidth on this just as a
test. What is that thing you downloaded? Does it have both audio & video at that
astonishingly low resolution?

As for attempts to post that don't show up, that can happen when you use the Reply to
author button. That button sends a private E-mail to the poster in question. Only your
recipient gets to see what you said. You should always use the Reply all button. That
is the way to post your comments in the thread. Obviously, that's what you did at least
on your second attempt.

That's kind of you, Sean, but probably not helpful. It's not really too significant that
I have the items. I wouldn't watch them anyway since the topic doesn't particularly
interest me. The useful exercise would be for me to see what VDH does when I try to
download them. But it's not worth it to me to waste a couple of hours of my bandwidth
because YouTube is reprehensibly slow about these things. When I download things from
YouTube, they typically take about the same amount of time that just watching them would
take. A 10-minute clip of highlights of a hockey game takes about 10 minutes to download
from YouTube. So I'm not going to try with this. The significant thing is that the
original poster was not seeing a variant listed in the VDH menu for the full item. But
both of us who have posted since then are seeing such variants. If the original poster
is now also seeing such variants, then my explanation above apparently applies.
Otherwise, more investigation will likely be indicated.

Thanks for your replies. I noticed that in the Video DownloadHelper settings it said:
Companion App outdated - please update
Found companion app: VdhCoApp 1.5.0
Latest available version is 1.6.2

When I click the "Update Companion App" button, nothing happens.

I had to google " Video DownloadHelper companion app" and was able to find it. After installing it, I was able to download the videos that I wasn't able to before.

There was no need to work that hard to find the CoApp. Have a look over here:

https://groups.google.com/g/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/c/BzPLK2YyL-s

There's lots of information in there that you will doubtless find useful. In particular,
do a string search for "various pieces" in there. Click the link you'll find & read up
on how you could have made your life a lot easier. One thing you will find is that 1.6.2
is not the latest version of the CoApp. Wherever you found your information, it is out
of date. The reference I'm pointing you to shows how you can get the official
information.

I got the information about 1.6.2 directly from the add-on, clicked the button that the add-on provided and nothing happened, so I first went to the VDH website and looked for it, didn't see it after looking for a couple minutes (I'm not new to the internet; they don't make it trivial to find like it should be), so I googled it and found it (version 1.6.3) almost immediately.
