When DownloadHelper plugin is active and pages with video are loaded there is much lag created to the extent it freezes the Firefox windows for a few seconds or more.  This is especially noticeable on twitch.tv pages.

After disabling the plugin there is a consistent noticeable difference.

There are no screen shots I can think of to explain more than this.  Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help troubleshoot this.

hi,

do you mean when you are downloading at the same time you're watching ?

No, I mean when I am not even using the plugin.  (eg: I open firefox, open twitch.tv, then when I open or close new twitch windows firefox freezes.)  The lag is completely different from when a file is processing or downloading.

i have experienced this too. Also any time watching a stream for an extended period causes firefox to slow down, e.g. watching a youtube live stream for over half an hour.

probably best to just blacklist dwhelper on sites with streaming that you dont need to use it on

I asked the boss, it seems that it may happen as VDH is trying to get info from these streams and after a while it can consume a bit of resources.

Christopher Clinton, uwu Tunes: do you experience the same issue if you the latest 7.4.0a1 VDH beta version ? https://www.downloadhelper.net/firefox/betas

In this version, VDH does not keep trace of all the video pieces it sees in a live stream.

Thanks for looking into it @jcvdh

That makes sense.  I am curious why it needs to gather info if I do not choose for it to download?

@mig  I will try the 7.4.0a1 and see what happens.  Thanks

Yes.  I can confirm it does still happen.  When I close or open other firefox windows, the video window and sometimes all of firefox laggs.  When I disable plugin it stops--very noticeable and repeatable difference.  I have been having to keep it disabled until I want to download something.

I've been experiencing this using Firefox browser on twitch,  what I have found that twich uses several networks to deliver content to the browser:

For me Black Listing the following stopped the lag:

I hope this helps everyone.

That is what I also suggested on another post. If the add-on is blacklisting twitch then it is no longer detecting any video.
That makes it no longer a video downloadhelper problem, but some users  remain convinced that it doesn't work and still the problem of vdh.
I don't agree with that, more likely they have too many twitch tabs open which takes a lot of the computers memory.

I don't believe the number of tabs are the issue,  When I first experienced this issue I only had two tabs open and plenty of free memory.  I tried the first suggestion of blacklisting twitch.tv and the behavior remained the same.  So I examined firefox console, found the stream coming from other sites,  TwitchCDN was the big one.  It took additional digging to see all the sites to stop this.

Also found the issue came back with twitch sharing Prime Videos.
but Now I think I really have this black list solving the issue.

But now freezing doesn't rear it's ugly head.
