I was able to download videos from rec-tube.com before quite easily.

Now, it shows that the video is downloadable but whenever I click the download option it wouldn't start and I get this error: "filename must not contain illegal characters".

This doesn't happen before.

Can you share a specific URL where you see that problem ?

Sorry for the late response.

Normally, even if you don't click the play button Video DownloadHelper will detect it and you can download the video instantly.

Now, it still shows the video is detectable and downloadable but the download won't start.

Hope to get this issue resolved.

Your response is highly appreciated!

I gave a try to this link and it seems to download ok, at least using the companion app.

Just for fun I clicked on your URL you provided above: https://rec-tube.com/watch/2018080812210273/?7.  Warning, folks.  It's a porn site.  So I launched playback on this particular video.  Then I went into fullscreen, to help VDH recognize the video.  It took rather a long time to launch & then kept stopping during playback.  There was a single variant listed by VDH.  I launched the download of the video, then closed the web page.  This is my standard procedure.  I don't want the playback to be competing with the download for my limited bandwidth.

It seemed to be taking an inordinately long time to download so I looked in the Windows Resource Monitor.  This site apparently throttles their downloads.  I was seeing about 100K throughput on a conection that is usually about 530K.

After about 5 minutes VDH reported that the download had completed successfully.  I had about a 25M file but there was no duration listed & the Details tab of the file's Properties was empty.  This prepared me for what I now expected, which was that VLC could not play the file.  I've mentioned before that VDH should not be telling me a download completed successfully when it is in possession of sufficient information to report that in fact the download did NOT complete successfully.  VDH told me the expected size of the file when I launched the download.  The resulting file was not that size.  VDH should have reported FAILURE to download, not success.  It looks like this low quality web site is too unreliable to let you download stuff with high hopes of success.  Thinking I might try again, I was met with a page claiming I had reached my daily limit of 60 seconds of viewing time & I was encouraged to buy a subscription.  Not happening.

My advice is this: Find a better site from which to get your porn fix.  This one looks like a low quality teaser to get you to subscribe to something that might be higher quality.  But with the "freebie" being such poor quality, I wouldn't have much confidence their paid site is a whole lot better.

Happens to me too, from time to time. I wander, why it doesn't just ask me for a valid file name or generate something by itself, rather than just declaring "Download error. filename must not contain illegal characters" and aborting.
