Is there any way to stop the automatic updates since they always break everything?

Hi.  I love this add-on when it works, but more often than not, right after the update pushes through, I lose the ability to download any file types except adp which is not useful. Since the most recent update, I can no longer download mp3 or mp4, and I could before. This has happened so many times, that I usually am patient, and a fix is eventually sent. I would rather not update at all if updates are going to continue to take away the primary purpose of using this addon. I am using Firefox 44 (still - I didn't change that), and the VDH version that is unusable is 6.0.0a5. Thanks.

Susan, the version you are running is "6.0.0a5". The "a" in the version number means you are running a development version on the VDH beta channel. This is fine if you want the latest add-on improvements but you must accept those versions are, by nature, not as stable as the official version, 5.6.1, installed by 99.9% of the users. If you want less updates, just install 5.6.1 from https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/

This being said, development versions do not take away any ability you had in previous releases. You cannot just state something does not work any more without providing more details.

If you are having troubles with a development version, please open a topic on the development forum: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/video-downloadhelper-5 . If the problem is with the official version (currently 5.6.1), you are in the right forum, but you need to tell more.

Hi.

I would love to stick with the official version, 5.6.1, but that is not something it seems I can control. I get auto-updated even when I don't want an update, which is how I got the development one. That was what my original question was asking. How do I stop the add-on from auto-updating so that I can stick with a version that works and not have to deal with these development versions?

Since my first post, I have been auto-updated to a6, and that is even worse. How can I reload 5.6.1 and actually stick with that version?

Thanks.

I have rolled back to 5.6.1 again. Let's see what happens this time.

Hi. So even with 5.6.1, most of the YouTube videos are only offering ADP. Is that something YouTube is doing to block apps that download? I can still download through other means, but VDH is not offering the mp4 or flv files any longer. I think only of of the last ten I just looked at had mp4.
