Download Helper Icons have disappeared from Firefox 43.04. Still shows Download Helper 5.5.0a14 Add-on installed. Reinstalled many times still nothing.
Uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled. Then tried to install Download Helper again. Nothing working.
Disabled all other Add-ons. Still not working. Anything else I can try?????

One thing to try:
  • click the 3-bars Firefox icon at the top right
  • click Customize
  • if you see the VDH icon somewhere, drag it back to the toolbar, click Exit Customize, you are all set
  • click Restore Defaults at the bottom
  • if you are still missing the icon, restart Firefox
If this doesn't work:
  • open URL about:config
  • search for parameter browser.uiCustomization.state
  • right click on it, pick Reset
  • restart Firefox if necessary
If still having the issue, make sure you are not running Firefox 46 or 47 which is known to have compatibility issues

If still still in trouble, ... well ... to be honest, i don't know what's going on

Just noticed this here in Firefox 44.02. Not sure when it disappeared but it had to be within the last three days. (I used it three days ago). Buttons are missing; no DH buttons available in the Customize icon listing; resetting the browser.uiCustomization.state in about:config and restarting didn't fix it either. Somebody please get this diagnosed and fixed!
Thanks,
Jim

Users have regularly been reporting this issue over the past year, they also report the icon comes back without any apparent reason. However, we've never been able to reproduce the problem and i must say we are running out of idea on this one :(
Creating a new Firefox user profile and reinstalling VDH from there would be a solution but it has its drawbacks.

Hi mig.  I just posted about this last night. I had dwhelper 5.5.0a15 installed. Nothing I tried got the icons back - also no context menu entries. Leaves you completely unable to download any videos at all, let alone convert them. So I tried the next easy fix: I went to your download page and "upgraded" to the latest stable version: 5.4.2. All seems to be back to normal now. Everything looks the same as it had; it says my converter license is still registered (though it also said that once before but wouldn’t work until I re-registered it).

So thanks, and for anyone who is still missing their dwhelper icons, try reinstalling the stable version. Worked for me.

Thanks for the feedback.
However, i have some doubts about your problem being directly due to the fact you were running a development version (except if you had installed or updated to 5.5.0a16, which was buggy and had remained on line for a few hours).
5.5.0a17 is now available and is candidate to being released as the next official 5.5.0. Would you mind giving it a try ?
