Hello,

I wanted to download some Udemy courses on my PC, but whatever video I open and start playing, DownloadHelper cant fetch (extension icon is grayed) that the video is running on that tab, so there is no download option.
Anyone knows how to fix this?

Cheers

First, I'm going to give you some standard advice. You might think, oh, this is
boilerplate, I can skip it. No. Don't skip it. Read it. Do what I'm about to tell
you. It's not very time consuming, It looks like more than what it really is. Follow
the advice.

Also, there have been A LOT of reports on here about failures of VDH on Udemy & Hotmart.
You can search for them in this forum. You probably didn't. Bad on you. But I might
forgive you if . . . We ask & we ask & we ask for people to try the approach we've
offered to many others here. I can only hope you are finally the one who takes the
advice. That's when I'll forgive you for being too lazy to search this forum & discover
that you are far, far, far from the first person to raise this issue here.

Be sure you carefully read the first 2 paragraphs there. Once you have read that, you
can check out the references within that web page that I am about to give you. But don't
just find the relevant link & click it. READ the context around the link. I recommend
you bookmark that link & read the entire page, if not now, if not in one sitting, bit by
bit over time.

You find a reference on that web page by searching the text of that page using various
search keys. The search keys I am suggesting are these:

problem report
stealth quote
short tutorial
using gmail to post here
evasive maneuvers

Next, look for "problem report" within the text of that web page. That will give you a
link. Click that, read what you find, & follow the advice. It's not good enough to just
name a web site. Help those who would help you by specifying URLs of particular web
pages on which you are finding content that you are having trouble downloading. I know
I'm not about to scrounge around on some site I've never heard of to see if maybe I can
find something that does or does not work. Make it easy for me to help you. But since
you're talking about Udemy, & you have to be a paying member of the site to look at
anythting on there, there's no point in posting URLs. But in lieu of that, it would be
very helpful if you posted screenshots of what the rest of us can't see for ourselves.
Meanwhile, posting URLs is only the last part of a proper problem report. The first part
is still necessary even if we can't visit the web site you're talknig about. Post that
first part. It's essential to a proper problem report.

Next, look for "stealth quote" within the text of that web page. That will give you
another link to click. Click that, read what you find, & follow the advice, not just for
your posts in this thread, not just for your posts in this forum, but for your posts
anywhere on Google Groups.

Next, look for "short tutorial" within the text of that web page. That explains why your
response here will use the Reply all button. It also explains why you will NOT use the
Reply to author button.

Next, look for "using gmail to post here" within the text of that web page. That will
give you a couple of links to read, at least one of which is sure to apply to you. Even
if you don't use GMail, even if you use another E-mail tool to post here, even if you
don't post here via E-mail, what it says there about how to construct posts to the group
applies to you no matter how you post here. If you ignore the advice in that reference,
you will appear to be rude. You don't want to be rude, do you?

So much for the preliminaries. They may be preliminaries but they are important. If I
see that you have ignored any of them, that will tell me you're the type of person who
ignores advice. In that case, I will not offer any further advice since you will have
showed that you would ignore that, too. So don't ignore the advice I've already given, &
then there's a good chance you'll get more advice out of me.

Next, look for "evasive maneuvers" within the text of that web page. That will give you
a reference that you should read carefully. Within that reference, you will find a link.
Click it & read what you find. We have tried to get other Udemy & Hotmart members to try
what we offer in there. Nobody has taken us up on it. I'm hoping you'll pioneer it &
thus help many people who will follow in your footsteps.

Now it's your turn.

Note to my future self - don't become this for-no-reason-grumpy-man.
@grampawildwilly Help if you can; there is no need for a passive-aggressive narrative. Enjoy life more, have sex, eat fruits, and drink water, it will help you become more satisfied with yourself.

You can call me a grumpy old man. That's neither here nor there. But if you expect
help, you need to post an actual problem report. If you don't post a problem report, I
can't help you. Not that I refuse to help you. I can't help you. Post a problem
report. I don't see one here yet. Follow my advice. You may be getting splash back
from the large number of problems reported here in a faulty manner. Deal with it. I'm
dealing with you calling me names. So what? If you want to solve a problem, you have to
describe it first. And I have had too many instances on here of people ignoring the
advice I offer. So I've gotten to the point of needing to see proof that somebody is
actually capable of following my advice before I'll offer more. So show me you can
follow my advice. In order to follow it you have to read it. All of it. Not just the
first sentence or two. All of it. Post a proper problem report. Don't stealth quote.
Let's see what problem -- what problem -- we can solve here. Leave the rest at the door.

Wild Willy, thank you for taking the time to write up all the above detail and the time you put into this group helping people. And I do mean that sincerely. I, like the original poster here, am having problems figuring out how to get a successful download from Udemy. Give me the weekend to read through what you have linked above as well as try some additional things on my own, and I will try to figure out what I'm doing wrong or what is going amiss in the download attempt. I have yet to read more than a tiny handful of Udemy problem threads here, so I haven't done my due diligence on resolving the problem yet, but once I have a couple of days to try more tests and learn VDH better I should be able to give clear directions on what I'm doing, what I'm expecting, and what I'm actually getting. Hopefully Sunday or Monday I can post some screenshots along with a detailed explanation of how I am trying to get downloads and what results I am getting if I continue to be unsuccessful. When I have that ready to post, should I continue on in this thread, or start my own post with the things I am doing? You are kind enough to dedicate time to helping others, I want to respect that and give a detailed error report appropriately. Thank you for your time.

Rag, I am encouraged by your post. In your due diligence, I can tell you that reading
posts about Udemy will not be helpful. Like I said, we've had many drive-by reports of
problems with that site. People post, we ask for more information, & the conversation
ends there. You will do well to read the other things I posted about: proper problem
report, stealth quote, those things. The "evasive maneuvers" thread is the heart of the
matter. It describes the things we will be trying to do. I also want to point out this
thread:

https://groups.google.com/g/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/c/h-_z6FIzaOo

There is a description in there of how to share a Network Monitor. We will likely want
to do that at some point.

There's also this thread:

https://groups.google.com/g/video-downloadhelper-q-and-a/c/S9BPzSdwtPw

It contains some examples of the evasive maneuvers in action, although they are focused
on YouTube. However, there are 2 posts in there dated July 14 & July 17 that are
relevant to the latest release of VDH, independent of YouTube. You should be sure to do
what it says in those 2 posts.

I look forward to continuing this discussion & maybe getting to the bottom of this Udemy
issue. We need to figure out if it's possible to download their content. It is still an
open question whether it is possible. We need to either successfully download from there
or determine once & for all that it's not possible. Our investigation will, with any
luck, answer that question.

Just came here to say that I'm still planning on investigating this more deeply. I simply haven't had the time to read the handful of links you've provided, digest what I need to do, and test and write-up what I find. I *will* get this done, as I feel everyone needs a definitive answer to whether Udemy videos can be downloaded with VDH in its current state. At the moment, I'm not expecting sufficient time to focus on this until the coming weekend, but I will be back with more details and screenshots of what I'm doing and what I'm seeing. Additionally, I hope to go so far as to grab some network packet captures to see if there is anything coming back from Udemy that is actually throwing a monkey wrench in to the grab for the videos. As soon as I get enough time to really focus on testing and making sure I understand the process of downloading, I'll be back to comment here. Again, Wild Willy, your patience, time, and guidance as a community member is greatly appreciated.

I see you're not stealth quoting. I think we're going to make a good team on this one.
