This new version corrects a number of issues from the previous beta.

It also offers new ways to download from YouTube. We are now using 5 methods in parallel to extract videos from a YouTube page. Depending on the situation, some methods may not work or give a slow download, but there should always be a displayed hit to download a video at full speed.

We recommend upgrading the coapp to 2.0.4 from https://www.downloadhelper.net/install-coapp-v2 and resetting the add-on video qualities once (this time should be the last one).

If you already run a VDH beta version, you can wait for an automatic update within 24 hours, or force the re-install from https://www.downloadhelper.net/firefox/betas

Five methods to download . . . Can you list the 5? Just a sentence to characterize
them, how we would recognize them.

I went to something I downloaded last week & tried it again. There were 2 complete sets
of variants offered. The first set showed the Side options. Downloading with that gave
me about 5 million bytes per second. That is amazing! That download shows up in
Resource Monitor as ffmpeg.exe. I don't suppose you'd be willing to share your secret
for this speed boost . . .

The second set showed only the old-fashioned regular old download. I got about 320.000
to 350,000 bytes per second with that one. That's better than the sub-100,000 speeds
I've been seeing for the past several weeks, but it's still stinking awful. I think this
is at least back to the half-the-duration performance we were getting before VDH 8.x.
You say we were getting that with the immediately preceding CoApps. That is most
decidedly NOT what I was seeing. With the last 3 or 4 versions of CoApp, I was seeing
downloads that were anywhere from 3 to 10 times the duration for download. Not one-third
or one-tenth. Three TIMES or 10 TIMES. A one hour video was taking about 3 hours to
download. The download would start out around 150,000 bytes per second (lousy) &
gradually slow down. By the end of the download, it was not unusual for the speed to be
below 50,000 bytes per second. Utterly putrid. The second set of variants show up in
Resource Monitor during download as vdhcoapp.exe.

The bit rates for the Side download for the item I downloaded were about double those for
the regular download. So the quality of the Side download was higher than the quality
for the regular download even though both downloads were the same resolution (1920x1080).
In this case, the "low" quality video had bit rates around 1000kbps & the "high" quality
one was around 2000kbps. Even the higher one was pretty low so I didn't notice any
difference in the quality of the image. The moral of the story is that if you see a Side
Download in the VDH menu, use it.

I guess I have observed only 2 of the 5 methods you might use to deal with things. What
do the other 3 look like? I presume you discovered test cases. You could just share
those & let us see what we get. What names do you use to label these 5 methods?

Have you dealt with the bogus "separate" video & audio issue on other sites besides
YouTube? How close are we to getting proper DASH support on sites other than YouTube?
How close are we to getting a solution to the long-standing Vimeo issues? I know you've
finally dealt with the timed_ID3 data issue because ffmpeg has always ignored timed_ID3
data, so this was cured without your having to do anything specifically targeted at the
issue to deal with it.

Sorry, but we don't want to communicate on the exact methods we use, so they will work a little bit longer :)

Just know that 1 method is responsible for one set of variants (the HLS ones), other methods are consolidated into the other regular ADP set of variants.

Hi, I am unable to install the new companion app.  When I open the download up to install it stops at the read the licensing agreement, then just shuts off and I'm back to the main desktop.  Help?

Hi Doug. Mind telling me:

- which OS you're using (Windows 7, Windows 10, …)?
- what's your computer CPU (32 bits or 64 bits)?
- which version of the coapp you downloaded?

Peux tu mettre a jour ton installation de MacOS? On ne supporte pas Sierra pour le moment (mais j'y travaille).
