I have installed video downloadhelper and when I go to the site I am wanting to capture the videos from all seems to work, it shows me the different resolutions available, and goes through the motions of downloading the video,
but I only end up with a 1kb .part file. I've changed nothing in the default setting.

Please help if you can, thank you.

I am seeing the same problem with the video at http://watch.cbc.ca/embed/38e815a-00a80f4b3b2

The tool detects the HLS streams, and offers them as download candidates. If I pick one I see it go through the process of DLing the entire stream, but at the end there is only the .part file in my storage directory, with the first 48 or so bytes in it.

I cannot watch the video at http://watch.cbc.ca/embed/38e815a-00a80f4b3b2 There is an image spinning indefinitely.

When you only get a .part file, you may try to rename to .mp4. If it's a simple (URL to file) streaming, the file might be playable. If it's a chunked stream (HLS, M4S, ...) it won't.

It's not a full clip, nor a url file. What i get if I view the 1k file in notepad is the following;

    ftypisom  isomiso2avc1mp41   free   mdat

That's all, even though it goes through the full motion of downloading the video, taking almost 5-20 minutes depending on the clip.

This problem seems to be at least over a year old with no apparant solution.  I've been trying to dl vids from a subscription site for several months now.  Currently using v7.2.2.  As others have previously said the video takes X number of minutes to download but there is only a 1kb (48 byte) file in the dl directory.  Therror data shows:

moz-extension://7327f3f4-eb0a-4470-a3f6-52d69c1e26ad/background/main.js:1
value@moz-extension://7327f3f4-eb0a-4470-a3f6-52d69c1e26ad/background/main.js:1:213919
value@moz-extension://7327f3f4-eb0a-4470-a3f6-52d69c1e26ad/background/main.js:1:173500
value@moz-extension://7327f3f4-eb0a-4470-a3f6-52d69c1e26ad/background/main.js:1:123868
value/t.endTimer<@moz-extension://7327f3f4-eb0a-4470-a3f6-52d69c1e26ad/background/main.js:1:172600

If that helps.

Any suggestions or work arounds? It doesn't matter what resolution I try to DL or if I use the companion or browser to DL. VDL works fine in other sites, just not this one.

In general, if you get a 48 bytes file, this is because the video is encrypted and VDH has not been able to recognize any audio nor video in the stream. The 48 bytes correspond to a static header VDH writes before attempting to append decoded data. I am not optimistic regarding the ability of VDH to download from your site. Sorry.
