  • Downloaded 64 deb version 1.3 of companion app. Install went Ok. However, after restarting Chromium browser (& even clicking Rechecking hotspot), it says that companion app is not installed: "Checking companion app returned: Specified native messaging host not found.". What does this mean and how do I resolve the issue?

Jerome,
I'm using latest version of VDH extension & its companion app.

sorry for this.
All I can say is that there should be a solution as I use the same system than you.
Did you try to create another user account and install VDH from scratch?

Jerome,
I've just uninstalled the companion app using Synaptic including removal of configuration files. I then installed the co app again using gdebi (app that I always use for installing from .deb files) and removed the vdh extension from Chromium (which I use in Ubuntu 18.04). I then installed vdh from Chrome Web Store which was Ok. I then downloaded the co app's .deb and installed it again. Still getting, after restarting Chromium browser (& even clicking Rechecking hotspot), that companion app is not installed: "Checking companion app returned: Specified native messaging host not found.".
I give up. As I previously said co app Ok on my other Barebones computer & laptop both running Ubuntu 18.04. Only difference is that on this barebones, Ubuntu 18.04 was installed from scratch (i.e. onto a blank SSD using usb memory stick).

Jerome,
I forgot to answer your question. I use the same Chrome user a/c on all my computers for my Ubuntu login as I have full sync (except for website passwords of course, as I don't want Google to know my passwords).
