Hi

I have Video DownloadHelper 4.9.24.1-signed, and Firefox 42.0. When I go to a site containing a video (such as a youtube site), the Video DownloadHelper icon on the toolbar is greyed out, and if I click on it, it just displays a list of DownloadHelper media sites. I don't remember when it last worked properly because I haven't downloaded anything for a long time, but it used to work fine. How can I get it working again?

VDH 4.x won't work on Firefox 42. It might work only on Firefox < 36 and is not supported anymore. You should update VDH to the latest version (5.4.2).

How to I do update it? I can't see any "Update now" option under Tools -> Add-ons. Automatic updates is already switched on but it hasn't automatically updated itself.

If you go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/ and click "Add to Firefox", it should update immediately.

Thanks - that worked. But is there any way I can get automatic updates to work properly, so that the same thing won't happen again the next time a new version of Firefox comes out that requires VDH to be updated? Under Tools -> Add-ons -> Video DownloadHelper, Automatic Updates was already switched on, but it didn't update automatically.

I cannot tell for sure what's happening in your case. Firefox automatic updates are supposed to work fine and you are the first user i read reporting an issue about this. Maybe you disabled add-ons updates globally. Open "about:config" and check "extensions.update.enabled". This should be set to "true"
