Hey guys,
usually I was able to download every single video with VDH regardless the quality in .mp4 format and there have been no problems.
But unfortunately with the new Version of VDH I can only download these type of video in the ADP version (video and audio sperate). After the download for both files is finished I can only find the files in the windows temporary folder.
I noticed that after the download finished a new process named "avconv.exe" is run: My CPU load jumps to 100%, I guessed this is the converter to merge both files? However even with small videos (like 2min) the process will not end but keeps straining the CPU for several minutes until I just deleted the task.

Now my question is how do I avoid this situation when downloading video with a high resolution (1080+)? With the old version of VDH I was able to just do a normal download of the high resolution file in .mp4, isn't it possible to have this in the new version aswell? Or is there something I missed out and I just have to change a small thing in the options?

Thanks for any help or answer in advance
Regards

There has been no change in the new (assuming 6.0) version regarding how we deal with YouTube. To verify that, you can easily switch back to a previous version of the add-on. VDH provides direct downloads of MP4 files when they are available on YT. If a video is only available in ADP, processing the audio and video files with avconv is required. We have no control over the streaming method chosen by YT, we just have to deal with what's available. Note that the registered version is much faster since it skips the re-encoding of the video.

Dear mig

I have just installed VDH as an add-on to Firefox as firefox disabled my previous video downloader and have encountered the same issue as Spoonkilla.

When you state "VDH provides direct downloads of MP4 files when they are available on YT. If a video is only available in ADP, processing the audio and video files with avconv is required." do you mean that the YT video can only be downloaded in ADP because the video is ONLY available in ADP?

If so, this is incorrect.

I know this because i am downloading a drama series and using my previous downloader add-on, i have been able to download as HD (1080 x 720) mp4 format although ADP version was available.

Now with VDH - i can only see ADP and medium definition choices. Can you please enable HD version in mp4 format?

p/s Reading Spoonkilla's experience after downloading is finished has made me even more worried as i am a tech-dinosaur and if i run into any problems i will not be able to identify what it is and how to resolve it.

Further to my reply/ post (above)

Upon searching, it appears that this issue of "only ADP and low resolution, no HD 1080 option available" on VDH has been around since last year.

In 3rd April 2015, you have given basically the same answer ie YT did not make the video available in HD 1080 resolution and it's not a problem with VDH.

As stated by me earlier, this is INCORRECT as i have been following a drama series and just yesterday 13 August 2016 was able to download the video in 1080 resolution on the same YT channel.  VDH shows no such option - only ADP and medium resolution.

i have checked another YT channel and worse, VDH only shows ADP or low resolution options .

Please look into this issue.

Thanks

I'm not sure what to answer here :/

On youtube, we access a meta-data resource for the video that contains a list of available streams. Some of those streams are audio+video and we make the corresponding variant available as direct download, some are audio or video only and we combine them: that's ADP variants. If an audio+video stream was available for 1080p or higher, it would appear in the VDH interface.

If you think we could do better, you need to tell us exactly how to do so, not just describe the outcome you'd like.
