like everyone else i had the white box issue.
Problem is i had custom settings and don't want to lose those.
Where is the file that stores the settings for the extension?
I am running the chrome extension in edge.
I was running 7.6.3.2 and had to switch to running 7.6.3.3.
i tried checking "\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\Extensions"
but the settings aren't stored there apparently cause i tried changing settings and pasting an older copy of the extension folder but that didn't revert the settings i changed.
I think the settings are stored elsewhere but where?

Oh. That does make things a bit difficult. I have no idea where the extension settings
are stored. I'm just another user, like you. But I wouldn't be worried about my
settings. The Chrome extension with the fix for this problem has been posted on the
Google store. The Edge extension appears to be waiting on Microsoft to get up off their
sofa & do something. You say above that you are using the Chrome extension on Edge.
That can't be possible. Are you using Chrome? Or are you using Edge? They're 2
different extensions for 2 different browsers, as far as I know. If you actually opened
Edge & ran the Chrome extension in Edge, I would think you've caused your own problems &
you're totally out of luck. You would have been better off just waiting for the Edge
extension to come available on the Microsoft store. Your settings would have been there,
same as ever. But your customized settings can't be that hard to recreate. It might be
a bit tedious but you could do it. Just wait for the Edge extension to get approved by
Microsoft & fix things up then. And stop running the Chrome extension in Edge. If you
want to run the Chrome extension, do it in Chrome.

There may be a way around your problem. In the first attached image, I have clicked
mouse button 2 on a thumbnail on the YouTube home page. Almost any video on any web site
will do this. This pops up a context menu. One of the entries on the menu is for VDH.
If you cascade out the VDH submenu, one of the entries there is for the VDH settings.
The ability to include a VDH entry on a popup context menu is controlled by a VDH setting
whose default is to enable this feature. Let's hope you did not customize this feature.

Failing that, you can do what I'm showing in the second attached image. You can drop
down the browser's Tools menu to find a VDH menu entry. Cascading that out also includes
a menu selection for the VDH settings. This feature is also controlled by a VDH setting
but its default is to disable this feature. Let's hope one of your customizations was to
enable this feature.

chrome extensions run natively in edge through the chrome web store.
I've had the video download helper extension installed for several months without issue.
I didn't run into issues until the other day and it seems other people ran into the same problem on chrome so it's an extension issue.
But that's not what my post is about, i'm looking for the settings or config file location for 7.6.3.2 so i can copy it and import it into 7.6.3.3.
Hopefully the dev sees this post so i can get help.

Do you not understand that the Edge extension is completely crippled, the exporting / importing settings are under settings/More.
And this is not accessible because of the white box problem, I see the same problem. The only thing to do is wait for the update to be
available.

But what I'm suggesting you try in my two images bypasses the white box. You don't need
to drop down the VDH menu from the icon in the top right corner of the browser window.
You can either pop up a context menu on a video or drop down the Tools menu in the
browser. Doesn't either of those 2 alternative ways of using VDH work?

It didn't work with the right context menu and Edge doesn't seem to have a tools menu. It don't matter now as it just update to 7.6.3.3

mine didn't auto update. i'm stuck with two versions installed and no way to transfer settings unless i can find where the settings file is locally stored.
I found "\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Edge\User Data\Default\Local Extension Settings\"
I'll do some tests, hopefully that's where the settings are stored.

I found that not every video gets the popup context menu. For example, if you're on a
YouTube page & you pop up the context menu on the main video on the page, you get a menu
of special YouTube functions. But if you're on the YouTube home page, you can pop up the
context menu on any thumbnail & there will be a VDH entry at the bottom of the popup
menu. Same for any thumbnail in the column of thumbnails on the right side of any
YouTube video page. The VDH menu entry then cascades out & Settings is one of the
selections on the cascade menu. Are you saying that functionality is simply not there in
Edge? The appearance of the VDH menu entry is controlled by a VDH setting. I was
assuming you were in the situation of not being able to get into the VDH settings the
regular way. But I was hoping that at a previous time when you could get into settings
that you had enabled this VDH setting.

As for a Tools menu, that's very odd that Edge would not have one. Perhaps they call it
something else. Or maybe the VDH entry is hiding on another menu. But this option is
controlled by a VDH setting that defaults to disabled, so it might not appear. I was
hoping that you had enabled the setting at some previous point when VDH under Edge was
still working.

This is all kind of moot now that Microsoft has finally approved VDH 7.6.3.3. Still,
this alternative approach might come in handy at some future date should another debacle
like this one arise. To prepare for such an eventuality, it would probably be a smart
move to enable the two settings for permitting the alternative methods of accessing VDH.
The two settings in question are on the Appearance tab. They are both checkbox settings.
Their names are:
- Context menu (which defaults to checked)
- Tools menu (which defaults to not checked)
So you would want to leave the first one at its default & change the second one so it is
also checked.

As for the path to the settings, that question is also now moot. Since the extension
will now drop down its menu properly from the icon in the upper right corner, you can now
get into the VDH settings the regular way & export your settings. You can even check to
see whether your customizations have survived.

My problem seems to have fixed itself.
also none of the solutions you mentioned would've worked anyways.
cause right clicking the extension from the toolbar and clicking extension options just takes you to a blank page.
the extension was broken so the settings page was blank.

Zero, are you not able to get into VDH settings using either of the methods I showed in
my 2 images? There is no Tools menu in Edge, according to mjs. But maybe the VDH entry
is on a menu with a different name. You might even have to hunt through some cascaded
submenus. If you can get into settings either of those 2 ways, you can execute the
Export function. Then you can uninstall both of whatever you have now & start over fresh
with the just released 7.6.3.3. Then use the Import function to pull in the settings you
just saved via Export. Failing all of that, just redo all your settings from scratch
with the new 7.6.3.3. That is likely to take less time than waiting for an answer from
Michel about where the settings reside. Annoying? Yes. Inconvenient? Yes. The path
of least resistance? Likely.

Right clicking the VDH icon... I never even thought of that. Well, if that gave a blank
page in VDH settings, that's worse than I expected. But . . . Seems to me I've read
reports of something like that on here rather a long time ago. I think the solution to
that was to hit F5 a few times to refresh the settings page. Allegedly, that would
eventually make the settings appear.

But I'm glad you have things back to normal, even if you don't know how that happened.
Now that you can do it, and before something else goes wrong, do an Export of your VDH
settings & keep them safe.

You mean the menu bar like in Firefox if so Edge does not have this , it does not exist and I think Chrome is the same.
The right click context menu didn't work why the extension was crippled but now I see it after the update.
Hopefully when it updates for Firefox it doesn't suffer the same problem.
