VDH used to prompt me for the download directory, and this was after the rewrite that implemented the companion app.  Now it doesn't; downloads just go the Downloads directory, and I don't see any setting to correct this.

I'm using browser-based downloading and I have Firefox set to always prompt. This is version 7.1.2 under Mac OS.

Anyone know what the deal is?

Thanks.

Pass the mouse over an entry in the VDH main menu. A "..." sign appears at the right of the entry. Click on it. You now see all the possible actions on this menu. Check parameter "Use this action by default" at the bottom, then click "Download" (as opposed to "QuickDownload" which is the current default and does not ask for file name/location).

From now on, you will be prompted each time you click an entry in the menu.

Mig's comments works great.  I'm on the Windows format.  You must select the "default action box"  before choosing the Download check box.  This seems to work for either the CoApp version or the Browser download choices.  The SaveAs box differs with each version.  The CoApp version utilizes 2 SaveAs options... either a Tab or Window dialog that are available choices under the Settings/Appearance/File Dialog box.  I've tried both formats, but only the Tab version is satisfactory.
   - Window (opens a separate pop-up window) is unstable, it closes when left open (even when you Zero out the CoApp/restart or Idle to 0).  Also closes when you try to change directories.
   - The Tab SaveAs is very stable, my only issue is that when the new Tab closes after a save, instead of returning back to the originating URL so that I can make further Saves, it instead returns to the next Tab in line.  Inconvenient if you have multiple Tabs open
   - - The Browser SaveAs presents the old style Pop-up box, however, the CoApp browser choice provides a continuous SaveAs box and retains the previous file save folder choice.  Use the CoApp!

   -  The last item is the Ram that CoApp uses for downloads, over 500MG, it also seems to stay running after a download is complete.  I've had to close it using Task Manager...need to watch this further..  FireFox is also a huge hog in 58.0.2.  I'm waiting to review the Chrome versions
