Paris, je t'aime (2006)
There is lot to love about this anthology film, in which 18 directors
chime in with
stories of love in the city of love and lights. Contributions from the
Coen Brothers,
Tom Tykwer, Alfonso Cuarón, Wes Craven, Gus Van Sant and more make for
a
great variety pack of entertainments -- particularly if you're already
given to their
styles and/or in love with Paris, when it sizzles. But the segment we
are interested
in most today is Isabel Coixet's "Bastille." Coixet (My Life Without
Me) tells the tale
of a philanderer (Sergio Castellitto) ready to divorce his wife
(Miranda Richardson),
until she confides she has terminal leukemia. It's among the heavier
segments, but
then again, it is Bastille Day. At least we're not pushing Marat/Sade
today.
