Gardens of the Night (Damian Harris, 2008)
A gritty, haunting drama investigating child abduction and its
aftermath, Gardens of Night
follows eight-year-old Leslie (Ryan Simpkins) as she is kidnapped by a
couple of unsavory
characters (including Tom Arnold in one of his more believable roles).
The narrative continues
years later with the teen-aged Leslie (Gillian Jacobs) eking out a
living on the streets, believing her parents never attempted to find
her. Cameos by the likes of John Malkovich and Jeremy
Sisto provide a little recognition to the film, but the stars of the
film are the girls playing Leslie;
they may be the Jodie Fosters of the future.
