Pick of the Week

Spartacus (1960)
With the release of I Love You, Man this week (not to mention
this year's decline in sales of Bud Light -- the first decline in that
beverage's history) bromance is on many minds and lips. Maybe
a few other places, too. And there's been a bunch of fanfare over
Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid setting the standard for the
bromance as a genre. But our current nominee for the flag-bearing
bromance is Spartacus, which brings us a bromance laden with
sweat, skin and passion. And I don't know about you, but wouldn't
you rather see Kirk Douglas and Tony Curtis fall to each other's
passions over Rudd & Siegel or even Redford & Newman?
Remake Watch
~::~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~::~
Our stalwart Remake Watcher will return from vacation next
week; in the meantime she's sent us a couple of tips that are
kinda, sorta blowing our minds:
1. Our effin' favorite effin' filmmakers David Mamet is at work on
a new script for the Diary of Effin' Anne Frank! Totally in development,
no announced release date, hopefully amazing.
2. Salman Rushdie's children's book, Haroun and the Sea of Stories,
is being kicked around the studios as a film -- we heard it from the
mouth of Rushdie himself. If it's a smash, will we get a film version
of The Satanic Verses, and can we have Mamet script that, too?
