Resuming weekly club news now that things are getting back to normal(ish):
HEADLINE NEWS
Tentcon. Club held its Sixth Annual Tentcon outdoor gaming event this past Saturday and Sunday, June 5 & 6. As always, it was awesome! For first time, Tentcon had one-day, three-round AoS and 40k tournaments. Event also featured Apocalypse, 30k, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Necromunda, and Middle Earth Fantasy Battle. Photos are already posted on the club’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. Thanks to everyone who came to play, made a financial contribution, or helped out running the event!
Victory Comics. Has reopened the gaming back room! The club can resume in-person gaming, following Victory Comic’s requirement for wearing masks for the time being. See Weekly Events for details of recurring gaming opportunities.
Board Room This Sunday. Board Room has asked us to use either the Peacock Lounge or the Chairman’s Lounge this Sunday, June 13, instead of our usual gaming space. I will ask for both spaces, but will see what the Board Room can accommodate. Might be a good weekend for smaller games, or to take a break after Tentcon. Board Room is following CDC and VA Department of Health guidelines and is not requiring masks for fully vaccinated people.
Atlantic City Open. Several club members are travelling to Atlantic City this coming weekend to play at the Atlantic City Open. Good luck to them all!!!!
WEEKLY EVENTS
TUESDAY: Age of Sigmar. 6-9 pm, at Victory Comics. All welcome to battle it out in the Mortal Realms.
THURSDAY: Kill Team. 6-9 pm, at Victory Comics. (Can also play WarCry or other skirmish games.)
SATURDAY: Warhammer 40,000. 6-9 pm, at Victory Comics.
SUNDAY :
Will have gaming and socializing at The Board Room in Arlington this week: Sunday, 1 pm until 6 pm. The Board Room sets aside a section of the bar/restaurant for us to put up to four 6x4' tables and gives us part of a storage locker on site to keep our tables and terrain. The Board Room is a great place and offers the chance for drinks and food while playing Warhammer 40k or Age of Sigmar (or Necromunda or Kill Team or Titanicus or Blood Bowl or whatever you want!). Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game (LotR) happens regularly every Sunday afternoon, 1-6 pm, at Victory Comics and on an ad hoc basis throughout the week.
GAMES WE PLAY
30K. Club is big into the Horus Heresy. New players always welcome. Usually play Sunday afternoons at the Board Room.
Aeronautica Imperialis. Matches are being played at the Board Room on Sundays and on an ad hoc basis during the week. Grot bommas are da best! The space marine, eldar, guard and Tau ships look sweet too.
Adeptus Titanicus. Everyone digs giant robots, and Adeptus Titanicus gives you the chance to fight with the biggest in the Grim Dark. The club is assembling their legions and games are being played. No regular gaming days and times have been set yet.
Blood Bowl/Blitz Bowl. Lots of interest in the club and was played a lot during the pandemic. New editions of both games have been great. Usually played at the Board Room on Sundays.
Board Games. We play them. Which ones? Seems like all of them. Check out the Board Games WhatsApp chat to see what people are playing at the moment.
Conquest. Lots of buzz around this rank and flank fantasy game from Para Bellum. If you are interested, join the Skirmish WhatsApp Chat to learn more.
Dropzone/Dropfleet Commander Dropfleet is probably one of the best non-GW miniatures games out there, so highly recommend it to any interested in Battlefleet Gothic style big ship combat. Dropzone is more akin to Epic. Both have great models and stories. Generally playing on Sundays at the Board Room.
Gaslands. Several members have started to buy Match Box cars and kit them out for combat. If you are interested in Mad Max meets Running Man mayhem, Gaslands is a great choice (and affordable to get into). Check out the Skirmish Whats App chat to learn more.
Malifaux. Club is gearing up to add Malifaux to its menu of regularly played games. There are lots of opportunities to play, both within the club and with the DC area Malifaux clubs. Check out the Skirmish WhatsApp chat to discuss.
Marvel Crisis Protocol. Many club members are getting in to this game and painting up models. If you are interested in joining, there is a WhatsApp chat for it.
Middle Earth Fantasy Battle. Said to be the best game GW makes. Sure some people disagree, but hard to argue with the enthusiasm and fun being had by the group playing it. Check out the Middle Earth WhatsApp chat if you want to join the fun.
Necromunda. Generally plays on Sundays at Board Room. Club campaign is seeking to start. Gangs are being added to the campaign via Yaktribe. Contact Martin Rauscher on the Whatsup chats for details.
RPGs. All sorts of role playing games are played, from mainstays like D&D and Pathfinder to more niche games like Twilight 2000. Check out the RPG WhatsApp Chat to find a game.
Star Wars. There has been renewed interest in Star Wars: Legion and Star Wars: Imperial Assault. If you are interested in either of this games, there are discussions going on in the club's WhatsApp chats.
Warcry. Usually play Sundays at the Board Room, but can also be played at Victory Comics on Thursday evening (see above).
Warhammer Underworlds. Went somewhat on a hiatus during the pandemic, but sure to be back. Best way to keep abreast is to join the Skirmish WhatsApp chat.
