Below are the nominations for the Victory Gamers End of the Year Awards.  The nominees for each award are listed in alphabetical order based on last name.  Vote before December 1 for your choice of a winner via Survey Monkey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2WXGQSV . Awards will be announced in December (details to be provided).

Update: Starting this year, if a person won an award, he or she is not eligible to be nominated for the same award the following year. Can be nominated again after that one-year gap. (Club president can never be nominated.)

MOST COMPETITIVE

This person embodies the competitive gaming spirit. He or she is most happy at a tournament and knows to start reading a codex or battletome from the back.  Always knows when and where local tournaments are being held, and is generally on the road a few times a month to throw down dice.  You need a list? This person has them in spades.  Not a “win at all costs” player, but definitely thrives in the thrill of spirited play.

THE NOMINEES ARE:  Michael Anderson, Zach Gitlin, James O’Brien, Raymond Ortman

(Also nominated: Monte Frenkel, Ben Marshall)

MOST NARRATIVE

It’s all about the story for this person.  What good is a battle if you don’t know what you’re fighting about or for? This person can tell you the lore of any army or artifact and has practically memorized the front parts of his or her codexes and battletomes.  Still plays to “win,” but who has time for tournaments when there are so many podcasts and narrative event Facebook pages to follow?  His or her army is built to tell a story – not to induce tears – and even the lowly sergeants have names and backstories.

THE NOMINEES ARE:  Monte Frenkel, Benjamin Marshall, Joseph Precise, Stephen Tuerff

(Also nominated: Peter Noone, Eric Tomao)

BEST PAINTER

Let’s face it, some people just have more talent at painting than others.  People always stop to look at this person’s army and gather round and go, “whoa, that looks great!”  This person’s paintbrushes are sable and cost more than your army, but he or she knows how to use them.  Could be a commission painter, except has no interest in assembly line painting. This person may play grey armies, but only because he or she would rather do that than put a hastily painted model on the table.

THE NOMINEES ARE:  Jesse Gaskins, Chris LaCour, Horacio Rivas, Sam Santijirakun

(Also nominated: JP Horrigan, Travis Johnson, Chris Kay, Benjamin Marshall, Cody Wright)

FAVORITE OPPONENT

Every game is a win when playing this person.  May not be the best player, but is a person you’d always be willing to be paired up with for an afternoon of gaming.  This person is forever gracious in both victory and defeat, and makes sure the game is fun above all else.  Competitive or narrative doesn’t seem to matter to this person, since his or her objective is to have a good time either way.

THE NOMINEES ARE: Michael DiCianna, Monte Frenkel, Chris Kieschnik, Sandro Teixeira

(Also nominated: Paul Bussard, Ryan Byrne, JP Horrigan, Joseph Precise, Martin Rauscher, Theresa Wagner)

Please vote in the club awards this weekend. Going to close the polls on Monday so this is last chance. Some categories- especially Best Painter and Most Competitive- are separated by one or two votes right now, so all voted make a difference. Will announce awards on December 24. Plaques will be handed out in January.
