Hello Andrew and welcome to the Victoria Village discussion board.
I hope your post will inspire a different direction of conversation on
the board. I hope you'll stay around and join the conversation. My
intent of developing this discussion board and the related website was
simply to provide a place for association members to meet and discuss
topics. I will admit that the complaints seem to call out louder than
the compliments, but if you look through the topics, the compliments
do exist.
For a little background on myself, I served on the Victoria Village
board for nearly a decade. I remained on the board for nearly a year
after I had to move to Denver for my job. I do appreciate the job
that the board is volunteering to do and I have stated many times that
it is a tough and thankless job. I will only speak for myself, but I
am not opposed to the board or the individuals serving at all. I do
have issue with how a number of issues have been handled over the last
3 or so years. Especially the handling of modifications to our
governing documents. I and many others were deeply involved with the
work on the documents. These people contributed their time and effort
for free just as the board does. In the final analysis, it is
critical to operate in a candid and transparent fashion when serving
on a public board of directors and this is where I feel the board has
collectively gotten off track. This was the exact behavior that
inspired me to invest the time and money to develop the
VictoriaVillage.net site. (Note: I have sold my interest in
VictoriaVillage.net and now only manage and contribute content.)
Pay special attention to operating in with candor and in a transparent
manner. These behaviors will be pivotal to the outcome of events in
the near future. There is a critical opportunity to help resolve at
least some of the animosity and distrust that has grown between
certain members of the association and the board as a body. Operating
transparently and responding with candor will help to build trust and
cooperation. Political maneuvering and stone-walling will only serve
to deepen the issues at hand and strengthen peoples resolve to fight.
Keep those points in mind as you observe and assess the events that
will transpire in the next few days.
Unless weather prevents me, I will be in attendance next week. I look
forward to meeting you then.
