'Victoria has also been busy place as the NDP have been hailed as
providing a pretty good opposition to the Liberals, getting them to
change direction on a number of issues. The NDP and the Liberals have
been remarkable business-like when dealing with the matters of the
province -- a refreshing change from the schoolyard antics of previous
administrations.
"The legislature has been an experience," said Simpson. "I'm still not
sure how you make this place more productive. It's more about optics
than getting work done."
He says changing the electoral process is needed and any changes will
have to take place over time. As for the STV system, Simpson isn't
completely sold on it.
"As long as you have a majority party, you have rule by the premier," he
said.'
Seems to me that STV will provide some strong incentives for MLAs to
resist rule by premier.
