Hi Group,
I just did a level 1 SSI freediving course in Koh Tao. I'm back in Melbourne now, but still feeling the freediving stoke.

What is the freediving scene like in Melbourne? Where are people training?

Hi Tim! And Happy New Year to all the freedivers!

We usually train on Wednesdays at the MSAC swimming pool from 8.30pm to 10pm. Sometimes there are other trainings. Emails are sent through this address to check who is motivated to go.

By the way, who is motivated to go tomorrow? I will be there!

Cheers,

Elodie

Cool. Thanks for the reply.

Southern freedivers club meeting, what goes on there? Who goes?

I'll be at the pool tonight. Where do you meet?

We'll be at the 50m indoor pool from 8:30pm. I think you'll have no problem spotting us.

Thanks for a fun training session, Sergey and Elodie. I couldn't really keep up, but I'm already noticing improvements.

I'll see you next week.

Hi, Rochelle.

Welcome to our small community.

Excellent article but I disagree with you that freediving is for a few "chosen ones". I think everyone can freedive. Sure, not everyone is capable of diving to extreme depths, but the beauty of this sport is that you don't need to. No matter how deep you dive, it may be a couple of meters deep, freediving brings an unbelievable experience. As I wrote not so long ago:

It's not entirely clear to me why people take part in such competitions and beat records. Any "big" sport brings pain and traumas. As for me right now, I dive into depth, but not for depth. Yes, I am curious to know what I am capable of, but I would never dive to a depth that is uncomfortable to me. While diving, we submerge into ourselves, and that is the only thing that matters.
