As avid water users, and people who appreciate the natural beauty of
the underwater world, freedivers can play a significant part in aiding
shark conservation. Sharklab is a global, non-profit, voluntary
organisation dedicated to the conservation and research of
Elasmobranch species (sharks, skates, rays and chimeras)

• FACT: There are over 400 species of sharks
• FACT: The Blue shark is now listed as threatened and numbers are
thought to be at levels below 95% of those 40 years ago
• FACT: Over 100 million sharks are killed every year for their fins
and as fishing by-catch

ABOUT SHARKLAB
• Sharklab is an official NGO, run by volunteers who aim to increase
awareness of shark species, collect data on sightings and catches and
actively lobby for better protection of sharks

• Sharklab is a global organisation that carries out research and
activities on a local level in numerous countries worldwide. We work
in conjunction with other organisations such as the Shark Alliance and
the Save Our Seas Foundation

• You can help by becoming a member, reporting sightings or by just
signing the petitions to ensure better protection for sharks

We are looking to recruit more members in Australia. If anyone is
interested in finding out more please contact me.
Together we can help preserve the marine ecosystem for future
generations to enjoy
Happy diving

David
