Hi,

I have been following this group for a while as I am creating Web 2.0
software. What I'm writing uses a lot of the technologies asssociated
with Web 2.0 but I am not familiar with the names I see used in your
posts (Canvas, UserScript, etc.) and online searches turn up a variety
of possibilities. Could someone post descriptions of what you mean
with these names so I can figure out whether what you're discussing
relates to my interests?

Dominique

For a bit more background on what I'm doing: My Web site uses
Javascript in the UI communicating back to my site server via HTTP to
send/receive data and make remote calls on objects, my server
communicates with other servers (Google, Windows Live, Facebook,
MySpace) for sending/receiving data and there is a PC application
which also communicates with my server for data transfer between the
PC or other devices (cell phone, iPod, etc.) using the same mechanism
as the Javascript.

Hi Dominique,

Welcome to the group.

Canvas refers to the canvas HTML element. This allows you to make 2D drawings in the browser that are accessible to JavaScript. Although not supported by IE, the excanvas javascript library from google helps to plug that hole.

UserScripts are the generic name of Scripts written for GreaseMonkey, the Firefox Extension. UserScripts give users the ability to modify a web application to suit their needs better.
