It is always a pleasure to get out of Dodge for a day or so and meetup with fellow large-format photographer Jim.
It is good therapy.
Here is a image I made on one of our outing in June I believe it was.
This is a scan, but it does print quite nicely on Ilfobrom Galerie grade 03 glossy.
The shadow detail in the cave is real and does take a bit of work in the darkroom to pull it out.
Take care everyone :)

Hey, that's my lunch spot!   (Well, one of several).   The log is a new addition that fell into the hole sometime last winter I think.

Very nice, Bob.  It must have been satisfying to see that come up in the developer!

It’s good to hear I’m not the only one left playing in the wet darkroom from time to time...

Just in case anybody needs inspiration to go out looking for fungi, the mushrooms and other fungi are still showing an incredible display right now.  I found a spot where the variety was just astounding today and in less than an hour I saw numerous species and dozens or hundreds of examples of each, including a huge patch of Amanita (not sure of species, something with warts similar to A. muscaria but cream-coloured instead of bright red).  While it's not large format, here's a gallery of some snapshots I took while exploring the forest near Chemainus today.  If anybody knows what the club-shaped fungi are I'd love an identification (I mean the black-headed and grey-headed ones that are shaped vaguely like irregular mushrooms, without gills).

Those gray/black ones are elfin saddles.
No chanterelles? I've been finding waaay more than I can pick and eat or dehydrate.

Walter:
The one in upper left corner (#1?) is a Helvella parasitized by a mould; the one directly below it is a Helvella with healthy black cap. No. 15 is not fungus, it's several stalks of a lichen, probably of Cladina / Cladonia genera; the Genus is uncertain, they keep changing them for both lichens and fungi.
I guess I'll have to go out and look more carefully around Stocking Creek and elsewhere!

Jim: This crop was on Mt. Sicker.  I'll send you a direct email with more details.

Lillian; I wish I knew where you were finding your chanterelle bounty - I haven't found any despite hoping to do so ;)

I’ve never taken up mycology, but I can certainly say that I’ve been seeing a lot of mushrooms this fall, and a tremendous variety of them too. Mostly I have been spotting them around my golf course, but even my yard has been unusually prolific. Currently, my front lawn is sporting a ‘fairy ring’ about ten feet across.

Come on up to Nanaimo, and I'll show you. Left lots behind when i picked last week. Also found lots when we were camping on Lake Cowichan in September.
