Farewell

I do not see a posting here and although it is not a very active site, I felt someone should say something about Jim's passing away in April 2017.

I found out some time after, which is the reason for this late posting.

So it is with sadness I write this post as Jim was a good friend and such a help with

technical aspects of photography from chemistry to composition. 

As I recollect, it was this group that brought us together and it was with Jim

that I made some of my best images here on the island over these past nine years

that the group has existed.

In fact, two of my images that made it into this year's juried Sooke Fine-Arts Show were made on a photo outing with Jim just last year.

Hi Bob, 

Thanks for the note.  Sad to hear this as well; Jim was an inspirational guy to get to know, in so far as I did. 

Does he have any published books or anything that you know of?  Would like to search a couple out.  I do have a very nice print from an exchange that he gave me a few years ago.

I know that he was working on a photography book, but if he finished, I don't know.

Perhaps someone else here in the group would have more information.

Thanks for the update, Bob, this is sad news.  Jim certainly held strong views on some things, but he was a very generous guy and I enjoyed spending time with him.

Bob:  I assume you are speaking of Jim Salt.  This comes as quite a shock to me, as the last time I saw him he seemed even fitter than I was. Mind you, this was about a year and a half ago, and many things may have happened in that time. Where did you hear about his passing?

 

I shall certainly miss his advice and enthusiasm. Stomping about in the bush with heavy gear was always more fun with him about.
