Hey, just thought that i would also introduce myself...

My name is Shawn Green, and I have already broken all the rules of the group by not living in Victoria! ha! I live and work mostly on Quadra island about four hrs north of the city, though i do find myself there fairly often.
I run a small welding and fabrication shop by myself and as of the last few years have been branching out into the machining world. I have a fair sized shop where i work out of and am looking forward to always getting better!
As far as machines go I have had My Holke V10F milling machine in the shop for a few years and I love that thing, In the last while I purchased an Elliot Alba Shaper as well. I also have the ubiquitous mini lathe and mill where i started out as well as my first little toy CNC router that I mostly use to make noise and frustrate myself. I am currently in the market for a decent lathe if anyone sees one! Ideally with a larger than average through bore. Based on my welding and fabrication work i also own an absurd amount of other tools from bending to drilling and welding and cutting machines. I pretty much just live to be in the shop.

When it comes to projects i never run out! i am currently building a sailboat in front of my shop in my spare time. I have a new service deck for the welding truck on the back burner at the moment. am rebuilding an old hydraulic press i bought at auction a little while back and literally like a million other little things. Plus I have to work on other peoples projects most of the time!  Look forward to networking and building a local community here.

Hit me up on Instagram if your into that kinda thing.

Hi Shawn, There's a pretty nice, albeit large and heavy, Seneca Falls lathe listed on usedvictoria.  Out of interest I had a look at it and it looks like a pretty nice machine.  Below the picture is the link on used vic and also a complete description on Vintage machinery where a previous owner posted.  The current owner is motivated to get rid of it.

Hey, Looks cool, but not exactly what I am after.
My ideal lathe is a little larger with the ability to reverse the lead screw, and a large spindle bore. Basically I do lots of marine fabrication and would like to be able to handle common size prop shafts.

"Mickey", new here. Old fogie but perpetually a beginner.

Shawn, you will also very much want a taper attachment for doing prop shafts. Several careers and many years ago I was an apprentice in a marine machine shop. One of the senior machinists did prop shafts pretty much daily. As you know they virtually all have a taper for fitting to the prop. Fiddling with the tailstock offset is generally not an option for something as long as most prop shafts, and in any event is a pain. You can of course add a taper attachment  later, but finding one compatible with your lathe may be an adventure of its own.

If you are even partly doing this for a living I would also not look at a change gear lathe like that Seneca Falls, but would only get one with a QC gearbox.

Good luck finding a suitable machine!
