A lovely afternoon for the 16 members that took part in the Alan
Bleeze Memorial Trophy event at Formby Hall Golf Club, and great to see Val Snape
in attendance, as one of our very longstanding members, but also holing a
monster putt on the 14th. Captain
Fred put up a challenge of the best gross score over the par 3s, with Kevin
Allars and Paul Stanson coming close on 14 points, but beaten into the long
grass by Julian McInerney on a fantastic 13 points. As to the main competition, Tom Kellett and
Julian McInerney both returned 33 points, ahead of 3rd place Peter T
Watson on 29 points, but Tom’s back 9 was better than Julian’s, so he took the
honours and will be treated accordingly by the handicapper (who, if he had
heard Tom’s joke at the presentation, would have docked him another shot!). Paul Stanson won nearest the pin on the 6th
and Priscilla Minehan the longest drive on the 14th (...and was she
pleased: oh yes!). Alan’s widow, Jackie,
joined us for dinner, and handed out the prizes, which was a lovely touch in
memory of somebody we all respected enormously.
