Formby Ladies Golf Club hosted the first outing of the year on a damp morning, but one that soon turned into a delightful afternoon for the 15 golfers, including three new members in Peter Kenny, and Julian and Denise McInerney.  Captain Fred Valentine Tee’d off in style and carded a ‘no-blobs round’ along with 4 others to put him into contention for his special Captain’s prize, which was eventually won by Peter T Watson, who also returned the top individual score of 43 points.  Sadly for Peter, he won, but he didn’t, because the competition was the Spring ‘Secret’ Pairs, and Peter’s partner scored in ‘the 27-30 point pack’ of 7 players, whereas Julian McInerney  and Mark Starr both scored 38 points to take the combined total 1^st place of 76 points.  

Stories were told of Charles putting away for ever, whilst also scoring an impressive 37 points, Steve (the bridesmaid again) Neale chipping in twice in his even more impressive score of 41 points, Kevin O’Donnell 5 putting a green, and Denise tipping her trolley over ‘in the bunker’ and then giggling herself silly towards a great round of 39 points.  Amongst all that mayhem, a great day was had by all, finished off with the usual gorgeous home-made steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding.  Great to see three new members enjoying themselves with the Society: Denise also went away with golf balls for nearest the pin on the 5^th, with Chris Edwards winning the longest drive on the 10^th to also claim a sleeve of balls.
