[Victoria Golf Society] July Trophy - Caldy Golf Club

A beautiful day blessed 22 golfers, including new member Tom Kellett, at the prestigious Caldy Golf Club, on 3 July.  A splendid turn-out for an excellent course, in great condition.  Caldy did their utmost to make us feel welcome, from the warm greeting to a very nice dinner.  We had a first-time winner, with John Wilson hoisting the July trophy with 38 points, with only a card play-off separating Chris Edwards in second place and Peter T Watson in third, who both returned 34 points.  It was particularly good to see three lady members, and it was Denise Smullen who won a sleeve of balls for longest drive, on the 16^th.  Chris Edwards won nearest the pin and also walked off with the Captain’s Prize (this time, most points on the par 5s).  Mark Gabbott secured the only ‘2’, and by popular consent it was nearly an ‘ace’.  It was a great day, and congratulations to all who took part.  The next event is the eagerly-awaited HesVic Trophy on 7 August, and we await with trepidation the team selection.  We really must take home the trophy this year.  We are also considering reinstating the alternative event for those who don’t make the HesVic team – more on that in due course.
