[Victoria Golf Society] September Bowl - West Lancs GC

 West Lancs golf can be tricky in the wind, so it was pleasing to see only a breeze blowing for our September Bowl competition.  The course was in marvellous condition, and 17 players enjoyed the golf and the later welcome and serving of a fish and chip seaside supper in the clubhouse.  Playing with West Lancs members kept the cost down, and we were particularly thankful to Steve Molyneux, who helped out when a member dropped out, and received a sleeve of balls and a meal on the VGS by way of thanks.  As to the golf, several players managed to avoid most of the long grass and bunkers, and Evan Bale came in with a very creditable 36 points to win the September Bowl.  Kevin O’Donnell and Dave Gant both carded 34 points, but Kevin got 2^nd slot by carding a fantastic 22 points on the back 9 holes.  Dave Gant, with 3^rd place in the bank, got another consolation by winning the Captain’s prize (best score on holes 1, 2, 9 and 18) with a score of 8 points (on a double countback from 4 others, by courtesy of 3 points on the 18^th).  There were no 2s and amazingly nobody made it onto the nearest the pin 6^th hole off the tee.  Evan, however, managed to narrowly avoid the bunker to claim the longest drive on the 16^th.  Another good day in the history of the VGS – see you all at Formby Hall on 16^th October, if not on the eagerly awaited away trip at Mottram Hall on 27/28^th September.
