Spring is here and the sun
was shining strong as we enjoyed the VGS trip to Walton Hall Golf Club on 10th
April. Our Spring Challenge Trophy event
was certainly enjoyed by all 15 golfers, with scores being on the low side
around a very well manicured, tricky, parkland course. Greens were slower than we were generally
used too, but consistent and in a good state.
As to value for money it was terrific, and finished off by a lovely
homemade chicken pie and apple crumble (not together, of course). I think we’ll be back next year! Charles Shepherd, free from the pressure of
being Captain, carded a very good 35 points, three clear of his nearest
challenger, Peter T Watson (32 points), and with Evan Bale third on 29 points. Longest drive (an absolute wopping bendy
monster) on the 13th was won by Evan Bale, with the late arriving
Steve Neale sneaking the nearest the pin by ½” on the tricky 4th. Captain Fred Valentine intended to donate a
special prize to the person that got the most birdies, but nobody got any
(oops), so the prize went to Peter T Watson, who carded the most pars (6 in
total). Great to also see Bobby Neale
enjoy a round with his brother, and very nearly beat him as well.
