What a fantastic
Autumn day for the Alan Bleeze Memorial Trophy event at Formby Hall Golf Club, and
what an absolutely terrific score to win the trophy and consolidate his
position as the best of the bunch for the year (so far!). Captain Charles put up another great whisky-based
prize for his latest challenge – 4 nominated holes (inc a double-score joker
hole):best stableford. 14 golfers certainly
enjoyed the course and the conditions, but nowhere like as much as Peter S
Watson, who demolished the rest of the field by a clear 10 points to card 38
points and mean that he will be playing off single figures at the next
event. Alan’s widow, Jackie, would have
been proud of the banter and the scoring, in memory of her husband, and our
friend, Alan. The minor prizes for the longest
drive on the 7th went to Evan Bale and nearest the pin on the 16th
to our guest Mike Baxingdale. As to the
main event, Peter was just miles ahead of the field (good on him!), with Kevin
Allars 2nd and Peter T Watson 3rd. There were a very creditably 4 two’s from
Kevin Allars, Peter S Watson, Byron Williams and Mike Baxingdale, all rewarded
by sleeves of balls, and the Captain’s whisky went to Kevin Allars for scoring
10 points on his nominated 4 holes, just pipping Peter S Watson to the
prize. A lovely meal followed, in the
delightful presence of a wedding party just the other side of the restaurant!!,
and we all then sloped off to our homes rather red faced from the sun (in October),
and full of food and drink.
