Oh dear –
it’s July, the summer!, VGS day and it’s raining. In fact it rained all day, sadly, but we had
a good day on a lush and tricky Frodsham course. Scoring was certainly difficult: well, for
everyone except our newest member playing off a 28 handicap (probably for the
last time), Ian Robinson. Ian had never
played so well, and proceeded to score 33 points off the first 13 holes before
quadruple blobbing his way to 35 points: no trophy, but a sleeve of balls and a
trip to the stewards for Ian. Lowlights
were Paul Stanson leaving his putter on the putting green, Chris Edwards teeing
off the wrong tee, and Kevin Allars and Alex Rugen just having pretty awful
rounds. To the winners then! Peter T Watson came out on top with 29
points, and collected the beautiful trophy in three pieces (it got broken on
the way to the course, so is now in need of some glass glue!), followed by Captain
Charles Shepherd on 24 points and Chris Edwards on 23 points. No 2’s, but the Peter Watsons cleaned up on
the nearest (PTW) and longest (PSW).
Alex Rugen won the Captain’s prize of a special glass and some whisky to
fill it, by getting very very close indeed to the 12th flag with his
2nd shot, but then missing the birdie. A day finished off by roast chicken, apple
crumble and lashings of custard.
