Formby Ladies Golf Club
again hosted the first outing of the year: the Spring ‘Secret’ Pairs, and what
a lovely day to play one of the special little links courses along the
Liverpool-Formby-Southport coastline. 13 members, along with guest Robert
Neale, enjoyed the well manicured golf course, as well as the gorgeous home-made
steak and ale pie and sticky toffee pudding afterwards. New captain, Charles Shepherd (31 points), discovered
over a drink at the bar that he and his partner, James Kilduff (33 points), had
come 3rd with 64 points.
Peter S Watson (35 points) and Mark Starr (39 points) thought they were
in with a shout, but came 2nd to winners Kevin Allars (45 points)
and Paul Stanson (31 points). Kevin
probably had the round of his life, with 26 of his points coming on the first 8
holes, and will no doubt now be hit hard by the handicap committee. Along with Bob Whittle, Kevin also had a
two. Nearest the pin on the 5th
was Jon Wilson, and Paul Stanson hit a monsterous longest drive on the 10th
to claim a sleeve of balls, but then sadly took 6 more shots to get to the
green and sink his putt for no points.
Plenty of banter in the bar and over dinner: proving again that VGS golf
is great fun.
