http://www.vfxweb.com/index.asp?action=itemv&ia=details&ItemId=5213
$23 plus $7 shipping... I have no affliation, and have not personally
ordered from them, but their prices are generally bang on for the value.

Thank you kindly for that link; I'm not the OP, but I've been looking for a
reasonably priced DVD-ROM forever.

Cheers!

Yikes - they're refurbished! Of all the refurbished hardware not to buy, a
DVD-ROM would have to be at the very top of my list. Well, maybe second to
hard drives, if anyone has ever seen them offered :o)

Try this: http://atic.ath.cx/index.php?page=LongDesc&sku=00400 The software
is available for $1 more. They also have a Sony for $40. Don't know what
Atic charges for shipping though and they might nail you there.

There's also www.ncix.com and although their prices are higher they do have
a price matching policy and their shipping charges are quite reasonable -
$8. I have dealt with them and they're very fast.

I'd rather have a refurbished dvd-rom than a cicero! (replaced one within 3
months (under warrantee), now it's only "real" brand names for me). Plus
refurbished could mean it's just a rom update (general consumers are sketchy
about having to do stuff like update the firmware on hardware).. one could
easily google and find out what the problem was with the original drives.

there is also www.anitec.ca here's a link for the dvd roms,
http://anitec.ca/default.asp?FundID=1&cat=27
The Lg is just under $40 (with the newest powerdvd which works fine with xp
(i've had bad experiences with powerdvd))

so far i've been satisfied with anitec (good customer service, they called
me back to both confirm my order and to offer similar products to reduce
order time if I didn't want to wait).. none of my friends have had problems
with ncix, but i've heard of problems with atic (although they were
communication/lanuage issues i think), i'd love to hear about good/bad
experiences with these stores.
