Adding to what Guylene said, I have also done the following  . Have used on both granddaughters
with good success. Have used different remedies at different times, depending what was available to me when visiting my daughter, or whatever came to mind.

Onion poultice on chest, can add essential oil mixed with olive oil if you so choose

Mullein and lobelia neck wrap.

Take half a teaspoon of raw honey, add fresh squeezed lemon.  Let it dissolve well in mouth before
you swallow.  Do not know age of son and how you feel about using honey on children.

I have this mixture taking place now.. I put garlic pieces in mason jar and fill with organic raw honey.
I leave it for 3 days , take out and discard garlic and store the garlic honey mixture. Take it many times
throughout the day.

3 cloves garlic with honey( 1 tablespoon), and 1/8 tsp. cayenne. It reduces cough and will soothe the
throat.

I, personally have used tea made from plantain  and hyssop leaves .

This worked great on a teenager, not sure about a child. Does not taste that great, but it does work.
I got this  recipe from Herbally Yours.

1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
1/4 tsp ground ginger
1 tablespoon honey
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
2 tablespoons water
Mix and take by the teaspoon.. Did not say how many times to take. Had my husband take 4 teaspoons, so he could  get some sleep . He was fine next morning.

Onions is basis of next formula.  Great hystamine .

Take large onion, dice up and put in pan, cover onions with organic raw honey and put in double
boiler over low heat. I left it there for 6 hours, but can leave it less. Strain and take by tablespoon.
For my granddaughters, for each pint of honey , onion mixture,I have added an ounce of the following.. Wild cherry bark,
licorice root, and this sure will get the phlegm coming up.  My daughter  has asthma, and when
she gets bronchitis, and it goes to asthma, I add one ounce of horehound, and that is good for
bronchial area.

Re: Whooping cough.. It usually goes thru 3 stages. In first stage, which lasts one to two weeks,
the symptoms are those of a common cold, with runny nose, low grade fever and slight cough. That
stage evolves into second stage called the paroxysmal stage.  The cough will become more violent
and occurs in outbursts of 20 or more successive , explosive coughs, followed by a deep inhalation
and makes a whooping sound. Stage 2 lasts two to four weeks.  The third stage is the convalescent
stage , during which cough and other signs and symptoms subside. These three stages are typical of youngsters' infections. I have never seen an adult go thru the stages as mentioned.

But all in all, the above are all bandaids. One needs to get to the base of the problem of why one
comes down with this. Need to follow what Guylene said about mucusless diet, etc.Excellent advise

Hope this helps

I have, in the past, had trouble with a cough that lasted for months.
I used Mullein and Lobelia formula....also comfrey. This was the only
thing that I saw improvement with. Also for the coughing Lobelia
extract works great.

Along with the above, garlic, and herbs for nourishing the body is
important. Vitalerbs and Jurassic Green (taken 3-4times daily) . Or
even fresh wheatgrass would be best. Also, fresh carrot juice. And may
I mention, and very important, the mucusless diet is a must during the
time of healing. Alone, this would make an immediate difference.

Dr C used to make a cough formula called Comfrey-Mullien-Garlic Syrup.
I would highly suggest this formula. You will notice a difference.
I don't think it is made any longer but the recipe may be on the main
website.
I really hope this helps. Please keep us posted on what works for you.
Be Well and Blessings,
Guylene
