Did the Vet suggest lancing the abscess to get the toxic pus
out?
The beginning of a bacterial infection is what usually causes an
abscess, and they arise from deep in the skin. I treated a boil on a dog
that was really infected . I used X-ceptic. Also used
yarrow in form of tincture, with warm compresses. as that is great for
boils and abscesses. Dog was in discomfort, so had to become
more aggressive. I used the yarrow in the warm compresses, as I was
hoping it would kill the bacteria and it is such a great healer.
My main concern was to get the boil to rupture so the poisons would
come out. I made a poultice of ground goldenseal root powder, but the poor dog
would not tolerate it, and seemed to be in discomfort, so I used some tea tree
oil , soaked a cotton ball, and while holding the dog when I knew she was
comfortable, covered area with a gauze pad and wrapped more gauze
around belly to secure . It seemed to give instant relief . It
did burst in a couple of days, and I squeezed whatever I could out of the area,
and used X-ceptic and BF& C ointment.
If it had not opened and d rained my next step would have been to
use a cloth soaked in one part
lobelia and 3 parts mullein in warm water to see if I could get it
to open up and drain.
If you do have to puncture lightly to come to a head, do so
with a sterilized needle and wash area very gently. It should rupture on its own
by what you are doing.
I would then apply vitamin E to speed up healing. Garlic oil would
be good, also.
I put into cap form echinacea, garlic and put into food when dog
would eat.
It was very difficult to do any of the treatments mentioned on the
dog, whose name was April. So, I did it whenever I could and she would
cooperate.
Hope this helps.
