Colin Farrell has said season two of his acclaimed mystery series Sugar "feels more dangerous".

The Los Angeles-set neo-noir series sees the Dubliner star as investigator John Sugar.

The new season follows Sugar as he searches for Ji Moon, played by Raymond Lee, the brother of boxer Danny Moon, played by Jin Ha.

The case draws him deeper into Los Angeles' criminal underworld while also allowing the series to explore more of the city.

Speaking at the recent season two premiere at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, he said:

"There's a lot of heart goes into making the show. And some people that I know felt strongly about the first season - that they liked it and talked about [it]. That it was unique, that it was different."

"It is darker tonally, but also by virtue of way more night shoots, and the texture of it just feels more dangerous than the first year, I think.

"Even though it's a kind of a neo-noir show, he's different from your usual noirish private detective. He has a sense of optimism and decency that's very much on his sleeve.

"He believes in the kindness and decency of human beings fundamentally, which is a very hard belief to truck with in this world that we all share, of course.

"So, he's a bit of an anomaly in this genre, which is lovely to play - nice waters to swim in."

Colin Farrell is also an executive producer on Sugar, and his sister Claudine Farrell is a co-executive producer.

"I love this show," he said on the red carpet at the season premiere.

"I love doing the show. I just selfishly love working on it. I love the character, I love shooting in LA, I love working with Los Angeles crew."

Season two of Sugar premiered on Apple TV last Friday, with new episodes following every Friday until 7 August.
