Apple raises cost of Apple Music and Apple TV+
OCTOBER 25, 2022 10.54 EUROPE/LONDON BY JULIAN CLOVER
Apple has announced increases in the price of subscription services Apple Music and Apple TV+.
At the same time, the cost of the Apple One bundle will also rise.
Apple TV+ will go up by $2 in the United States. Apple One will increase by $3 per month. Similar rises are expected to roll out internationally.
It’s the first time that Apple has increased the subscription prices of Music, TV+ and Apple One in the United States.
Apple TV has been regarded as the junior of the streaming services and while there have been some anchor programming, the depth of the catalogue has not been as deep as its rivals. Apple says this is now changing. “We introduced Apple TV+ at a very low price because we started with just a few shows and movies. Three years later, Apple TV+ is home to an extensive selection of award-winning and broadly acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries, and kids and family entertainment from the world’s most creative storytellers,” said an Apple spokesperson.
Apple says the increase in the price of Apple Music is down to increased licensing costs, pointing out that artists and songwriters will now receive more per stream following the increases. The amount received by artists across all music services has long been a source of contention.
