The biggest international game this month (forget the men’s World Cup) is the women’s World Cup Qualifier in Grenoble. The Republic of Ireland defeated the Netherlands last Friday and if they were to defeat France they would secure a spot at the 2027 World Cup Finals. Okay, so maybe the men’s Fifa World Cup is also a big deal. Hosted by three countries in 16 cities, 48 teams (unfortunately not including an Irish side) will compete over the five weeks for the biggest prize in football. For women amateur golfers, the Curtis Cup is between teams representing the US and Britain and Ireland. After missing out in 2024, Ireland are participating in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, which is being held in various locations around England. The Women’s PGA Championship (formerly known as the LPGA Championship) will take place this week at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota. The World Rugby Junior World Championship, probably better known as the Under 20 World Cup, begins at the weekend in Georgia. Ireland kick-off their campaign against England in Tbilisi, before facing Argentina and the US in the other group games. The Arnold Palmer Cup takes place at Tralee Golf Links at the weekend. The competition is an annual team competition for male and female college/university golfers, contested between the US and the Rest of the world. Surely the most prestigious of the three Grand Tours begins in Barcelona at the weekend. No, not the Vuelta a España (that’s in August). This year, Spain hosts the Grand Départ for the 2026 Tour de France. - July 4th-26th, TNT Sports
