Galway footballer Seán Fitzgerald has left the Love Island villa
Galway footballer Seán Fitzgerald's time on Love Island has come to an end after he and fellow Islander Lola Deal decided to leave the villa.

The couple found themselves at risk after finishing among the bottom three in a public vote. Before the remaining contestants could choose which couple to send home, Fitzgerald and Deal announced they would leave together, explaining that they were happy with their relationship and did not want the others to make the decision on their behalf.

Their departure marked the end of Fitzgerald's journey on the reality dating series, where he entered as one of the original contestants.

During his time in the villa, he and Lola developed a strong connection, overcoming challenges before making their relationship exclusive.

Fitzgerald, who is from Bearna, Co. Galway, had temporarily stepped away from the Galway senior football panel to take part in popular dating show.

Before entering the show, the 25-year-old primary school teacher said he does not plan to get involved in any drama on the show, but he added that he "might be mixing it".

The sportsman said that if he sees someone he likes in the villa, "I'm going for it and nothing's gonna stop me."

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on Virgin Media PLAY and Virgin Media Two.
